DETAILED DESCRIPTION
Students must research the field of JIT and critically analyse one real life case where lean
operations are implemented.

The assignment will have two sections/parts. In the first part students will be required to write a
literature review summarizing the importance of the concept of lean operations, the present
practises and any criticism on the issue. In the second part, students will be required to select
and critically evaluate one (1) organization that implements lean operations. The final
(learning) objective is to comment on the use of lean operations by the organization (linking it
to theory) and --if needed-- suggest further actions.

In detail, the second part of the report must include the following:
The type of lean operations used and why it was chosen
Prerequisites of the company
Advantages Benefits
Disadvantages of the method used
Further actions

Possible sources of information will be:

Reports exceeding the word limit will be penalized.
The assignment must be fully referenced and properly presented according to the
guidelines in the student Handbook.
Following the guidelines of the Students Handbook, reports should be written using the
Century Gothic fonts, size 10 and with 1.5 spacing between lines. There should be clear
spacing between paragraphs, sections and subsections. The assignment must have a
Departmental cover sheet attached.
A single bound hard copy of the assignment should be submitted to the secretary, 7 th floor,
L. Sofou Building.
