ABSTRACT

Religion continues to exist as one of the core elements of human civilisation. In India, religious beliefs and
practices have a large impact on the personal lives and its influences public life on a daily basis. Performance of
rituals are motivated by religious systems owe much to do with the past but are continuously evolving even today.
As a result religion became one of the most important facets of Indian history and contemporary life. Emergence of
diverse religious sensibilities in our times influence and shape social groups with divine order embedded in culture
and often they were expressed in the form of literary and ritual performances. The interaction between great
traditions and local forms of worship and belief based on village, caste, tribal, and linguistic differences, creates a
range of rituals and myths forms that varies widely throughout the country. It may not be wrong to say that
Hinduism is organized on the basis of a vast number of cults, large and small. The term cult here means a complex
of religious activities directed towards a common object of reverence (be it a deity, saint, animal, spirit, natural
feature, or indeed a living human being).
