    In Japan, 1-0-4, ichi-rei-yon, is the number for the telephone directory. With the ability to research tele-

    3 Today’s lesson covered getting a desired number from the telphone directory. In this conversation there are
    several points of interest. First, the literal translation of the telephone operator’s introduction is Telephone
    Directory’s (104’s) Sakai. The possessive particle no is inserted between 104 and the employee’s name. In
    Japanese, when introducing oneself, it is quite common for someone to begin their introduction with their
