1. THE LEGEND OF THE ORIGIN OF LAKE ATITLN

They say that this happened a long time ago, when the
Cakchiquels killed Tolgom. This event allowed the tip of
the hill of Tolgom's launch to become very famous. The
Cakchiquels threw the pieces of Tolgom into the lagoon
and marched past Qakbatzulu. After this, they plunged
into the lagoon. Each one passed neatly and they were
very afraid because the surface of the water was
shaken strongly. From there they turned to Panpat and
Payn Chocol, practicing their witchcraft gifts. While in
Chitululse they came up with nine saplings.

Later the warriors, among them Gagavitz and his sister called Chetehauh. They
decided to stop and build their houses at the point currently called QabouilAbah.
Without any reason, one day Gagavitz decided to throw himself into the water,
becoming the feathered serpent. Immediately the water darkened, a wind rose and a
whirlwind formed, and the surface of the lake was shaken. On the water's edge were
the seven tribes, who, upon seeing what happened, said to the descendants of the
Atziquinahay: "The surface of our lagoon, our sea, our brother, has just been shaken!
Let the half of the lake be for you and a part of your fruit, the ducks, crabs, fish. "

They consulted with each other and offered the following response: "All right, brother.
The half of the lagoon is yours, half of the fruit, the ducks, crabs and fish, half the
bulrushes and the green reeds. And so shall the people gather together all that they kill
among the bulrushes. "In this way the division of the origin of Lake Atitln was made.

2. THE LEGEND OF THE LLORONA

In its Guatemalan version, La Llorona is the soul in

penalty of a woman of Creole origin (descendant of
Spaniards) or mestizo, but in both cases of a high
socioeconomic stratum. Legend has it that the woman
was named Maria and that while her husband was
traveling, he had an affair with a boy from his estate.
But Mary became pregnant because of this relationship. Distraught, she ended up
drowning her son (in other versions are two or three) in a river once she was born. It is
said that the child was called Juan de la Cruz. For this crime the woman was
condemned to repeat until the end of time her cr y "Oh, my son!", Which sometimes
becomes "Oh! Where is my son! Juan de la Cruz!".

According to tradition, Llorona walks the lonely streets and frequents places where
there is water, such as pools, rivers, fountains or tanks. His pitiful cries frighten the
bravest and paralyze the dreadful. Many claim to have seen and heard it. It is said that,
when heard close, it is really far away, and vice versa. It is said that you can not win a
person (ie take his life) if he is wearing the underwear in reverse. Menizer women are
introduced as a woman to deceive them. It is said that whoever speaks to him loses his
life and that a man stalked by the Llorona is saved only if a woman takes his hand,
because the spectrum attacks only lonely men. It is also said that if one hears the cry,
one must try to move and not be frozen by dread. The person has to flee before
hearing the third cry or the Llorona will win it. To avoid encountering her or driving her
away, the person will do well to pray to the saint of his devotion or to repeat traditional
Catholic prayers.

Some imagine the Llorona as a woman dressed in rigorous mourning, while others see
her dressed in white. It is also said that the hair usually covers the face and that this is
like that of a horse (a feature that shares with the Siguanaba). Another aspect of the
spectrum, according to other Guatemalan legends, is that their cry is accompanied by
a cold wind that freezes the blood. Also it is said that if someone sees the Llorona in
the eyes loses the life.

THE LEGEND OF TATUANA

following the precepts of the church. For all these
reasons she was tried by the tribunal of the Holy
Inquisition, and was sentenced to death. The
Tatuana refused to receive the grace of
confession of its sins before dying. They say that the night before his death, he asked
as a last grace a piece of coal, some candles and white roses. With these three things
he made in the cell a kind of altar where he performed a sorcery. With charcoal she
painted a great boat on the wall while reciting spells, and it is said that the same

his people, his father said that he could not tell anyone about the grief that had happened.
This was how the princess was silent for years and the sorrow was getting bigger, so
much so that her face became ugly with so much sadness, no one else ever tried it so
ugly. However, one day a cacique from the other party came to the tribe and came with his
son, who fell in love at first sight with the silent, tender and intelligent princess. All her
friends told her that she was too ugly to marry her, but he replied that her love was similar.

Sometimes a diamond ring may be the best test to
evidence an infidelity. After the episode so tragic that
happened in Xalapa Veracruz, has been named to the
street where the happy couple lived as "The alley of the
diamond." The legend that we will tell you on this
occasion is also searched with the name "The black
diamond ring". A couple was in their fullest and happiest
moment, at least this was what it seemed. Things were
going so well that they had already planned the day of
the wedding to realize the desire to be together forever.
In a sign of his eternal love, the man of lean structure and European features decided to
give his wife a ring with a pronounced black diamond that undoubtedly combined with the
jet of his hair. The lady's eyes glittered, and still more beneath the moon as her boyfriend
asked her to marry him. A labor issue happened that occasionally floated and carried this
burly man of travel. The woman was alone in the house they had in Xalapa and had no
better idea than to visit the best friend of her future husband. It turns out that with the days
became routine the visits and the kisses between both began to appear. Her partner was
back on the road and she was already home to greet him, but he thought it best to go by
his friend's house first. Both friends of always, inseparable and always loyal for everything,
had drinks and talked about life. When the man sat down on the sofa, he could see the
black diamond ring he had given his wife before the trip. He thought a thousand things that
went through his mind, but he had no doubt, he was facing a betrayal. He returned shaken
to the house and found the empty hand of his wife. With a blank mind he took a dagger of
diamond and gold to nail it to the heart of his beloved and then removed it to place the
ring. People moved with the harsh story and even lined up to see the corpse with the black
diamond embedded in the heart.

STARRY NIGHT
A young couple decides to take an evening stroll
through the forest near their city to see the stars and
the sky without the pollution of the city. At the moment
of returning home, the boy realizes that the car does
not start. After a while trying, he suggests that she wait
for him in the car while going to ask for help. She,
although a little scared, accepts. As soon as he
leaves, he closes all the insurance.

Time passes and her boyfriend has not yet returned ... The minutes continue to pass and
the fear in her is increasing. Suddenly, she begins to hear a noise on the outside, more
specifically on the roof of the car. It seemed as if a tree branch would touch the car
through the air blowing outside. Though strange, they were not near any tree. Although
scared, at the end she ends up sleeping.

At dawn, the girl is awakened by the police. Missing her, she opens the window and asks
her to get out of the car, but does not look behind her. Evidently, she turned and saw her
boyfriend dead, hanging from the branch of a tree as her feet brushed against the roof of
the car.

THE LEGEND OF THE SOMBRERN

One of the most well-known legends about this
personage of the Guatemalan culture and also is
well-known in Aguadas, Caldas says as follows:
One night El Sombrern walked in a neighborhood
of La Antigua Guatemala when he saw a very
beautiful girl with long hair and He fell in love with
her. She searched for her house and took her
serenade night and time, but she did not tell her
parents about it. One day he began to stop eating
until he almost died, and it was then that the mother realized that it was for El Sombrern.

He took his daughter to a convent believing that there was going to be better, but the girl
still did not eat and one day she woke up with a braid in her hair made by the spectrum
and that day died. Then at the wake, El Sombrern appeared crying and his tears were
like crystals. He never forgets the girls he has loved. It is also said that it makes braids to
horses and mules ... It is also said that this terror besides part of falling in love with young
girls, likes to ride mules and horses from the stables of the farms in the nights exhausting
them. For this reason, the beasts during the day do not fulfill the tasks added to that they
become hostile with the people, the farmers and finqueros to see this behavior look for if
the Sombrern has not made them braids in the bellows. If so, the animal is no longer
useful for tasks ...

One way to know if the Sombrern is making his own in farms and houses, is to place
either a chair and table of freshly prepared pine near a house balcony or near the stables,
along with aguardiente and a guitar in the night Moon and must keep all people silent, only
this way you will hear the guitar and songs of Sombrern. Al Sombrern attracts girls with
long hair and big eyes, so when it is suspected that she is behind a young woman must
cut her hair to this so that the Sombrern does not gain the soul of the young woman.

The poor boy woke up at midnight, frightened, because on

the ceiling of his bed he heard moans, and the sound of a can continuously rolling from
one place to another. He called his parents, but these from his room ordered him to go
back to sleep. He even tried to sleep with them, but they also stopped him. One of many
occasions, the marriage was awakened in the middle of the night by a cry of terror from
the child's room, and after that they could not find it anywhere.

They gave notice to the authorities and the next day, returning home after a long day
looking for their son, they see a boat tied with a bow hanging from the roof. With some

The marriage moved, but in their new home, the sound of a boat rolled on the roof in the

anniversary of his death, the noise of the boat and the cry of the child are heard.
