stressing all the improvement that his team able to bring to the mini-oxydation system. Vyas
knows that he facing a critical decision, but hes confident that his project is going into right

3. To be able to foster an entrepreneurial environment in the context of a larger corporate, there

should be three components that the leaders should address. For one of the components is
culture. Culture awareness is huge to the economy. They should accept that failure is part of
the process and the willingness to encourage and support entrepreneurs when their first idea
doesnt work well. By focusing on having a business minded work force, that would meet
the global challenges faced by the company, as well as having adecentralized management
philosophy. Their vision explains this with its missionstatement: "We aim to change the
world through innovation, and to grow our place in it through entrepreneurship. They have
built their success on a reliance on innovation tobe competitive in the market. ART
encouraged employees to spend a half day eachweek 'experimenting, brainstorming, and
thinking outside the box' to drive innovation. Knowledge sharing and dissemination was
another key part of the ART's business philosophy. Lastly, the company also moved quickly
to bring products to market; once aninnovation was proven significant investment was
quickly put behind it. This allowed market testing to achieve what was called proof of
concept within ART.

4. Chotukool was a small refrigerator which was made for the rural India. There frigerator was
made in such a way that the refrigerator used to operate on 12-volt battery power and was
priced at Rs3500.The refrigerator market in India was estimated at 40 billion. Despite of the
fact that the refrigerator hadimmense utility, still the penetration level was below 18% for
the urban marketand 2% in the rural market which was very less in the rural market because
ofthe factors like price, inadequate electric supply and size. Therefore the Godrej people
came up with Chotukool, a cooling solution formass markets. This refrigerator was small,
not very expensive and did not useelectricity for its operations ie they used Peltier cooling
in the prototype. Thesewere the critical success factors for Chotukool.
For Chotukool to succeed following factors are:
a. Product utility
Channelizing on the ability of product to satisfy the demand of different users like
roadside kiosks, wayside grocery stores and flower vendors will help for the success of
product in long term.
b. Pricing
With price about half of an entry level refrigerator, Chotukool creates a new product
category, with a targeted value proposition that serves a new segment of customers. So,
for the product to succeed the target segment must be convinced to pay the price for the
product i.e. customers who are aspirational should find the pricing reasonable.
c. Promotion of features
The product satisfies the need of rural population due to its affordability, non
dependency on electricity and its availability in less than 100l segment, Chotukool is
well suited for rural customers. Thus making the target customer aware of these
different product aspects will lead to huge demand from the untapped market.
d. Proper distribution model
Deeper penetration will be achieved by the companies community distribution model
incorporating help of NGOs and self help groups.

5. Criterias are:
a. Innovations in design
Godrej should also try to bring more innovationsin the design of chotukool. They can
also make design more simple tohandle. They should make use of new technology and
can also incorporatesolar power technique
b. Income of target group
With the product of being very price sensitive Godrej, must choose the target market
keeping in mind the falling number of consumer in destitute and aspirant class and
increasing numbers in the consuming and climbers class
c. Pricing for rular masses
With refrigator being considered a luxury amongst rural masses proper price tag
selection is critical
d. Advertising and distribution
Create awareness by door to door campaign. The distribution channel shoud always be
reachable when the customer tries to approach. Chotukool requires
demonstration which doesnt happen So something must be done to solve this issue.
Proper information should be provided to the rural segment
e. Affordability :
Price of Chotukool should not be increased.

6. Having a presence in both the markets is an advantage but having two parallel yet business
models can be risk for any company. The market penetration for refrigators in the urban
market was 18 percent and in the rular market it was 2 percent. Hence the untapped warket
was huge. Godrej Chotukoolis a product made for the rular areas of India. It was made
according to the needs of the rular customers. There are various advantages in being present
in both the market but the marketing approach for the areas are different. This make the
marketing strategies different for different areas. When the marketing strategies vary the
product may suffer.
The sales may be affected and the focus or the target market may be confused. Therefore
according to me the target market for a business model must be defined as the marketing in
the huge diversified country like india becomes difficult to manage. But as the presence in
both the markets is an advantage Godrej must control the price difference and the marketing
strategies must be planned well too. Also being present in both the markets with the same
product would call for different promotial strategies. All these factors play an important role
in the success of the product sales.

Answer General Question:
10. There are alot of variabels have to consider before and after propose innovation strategies,
some variabels come from internal and some variabels come from external of the company.
For example, there is a conflict of interest in global innovations challanges case which is
comes from internal of the company. Both of point of view between Peter and Chyntia are
right, thats all depends on the thinking approach that they use. Based on that case, which
point of view is suitable and not, that conflict also related to demand and market
enthusiastic which is external of the company. Some variable can be short term effect and
long term effect. Thats why spell out the problem is important before and after propose
innovation stategies
