Communication III
INFORMATIVE SPEECH PLAN
Title: Hokage Culture in Filipino Facebook
Specific Speech Purpose: To inform my classmates and professor in Communications
III about the rape/catcalling culture in Facebook and to convince them to report the
groups/accounts involved in the said practice.
Statement: I would like to discuss about the growth of Hokage culture in Filipino
Facebook, its possible threats to the users, and what we can do to stop this practice.
I. Attention Step: Who wouldnt know this guy. For some, hes a childhood hero.
For others, hes a companion every weekday afternoon when we were kids.
This is Naruto Uzumaki. It took him 500 anime episodes, several ninja exams
failed and eventually succeeded, great wars and countless experiences just to
achieve his lifelong dream; to become the Hokage of the Leaf Village, Konoha.
But, in todays generation, for these guys, it only took them guts and severe
hunger for sexual pleasure to be coined as Hokages.

II. Clarification Step: Hokage, literally meaning fire shadow is a title bestowed
to the leader of Konohagakure and is the highest position in the government of
the aforementioned village. To attain this title, one can either be chosen by their
predecessor or be voted by the council of Konoha. In modern usage, it is used
to refer to any people, usually men, with a desire to anyone. For example, when
a man courts a beautiful woman, his friends may call him hokage even without
him doing anything wrong. This term can be heard all across platforms, either
in real life or in the internet. Due to its everyday usage, has gained a more
degrading meaning.

BODY

I. Through the years, social media has been a great help in connecting people
across the globe.
A. Facebook is a social media network which enables the user to create their
own profiles, and establish connection with others through posts, instant
messaging, video calling among other means.
1. Add friends, either known friends or total strangers.
2. Promotion of virtual groups with individuals sharing similar hobbies
and interests.
3. Sharing of ideas through photos, videos (live and pre-recorded), and
public posts.
B. Other social media networks include Twitter, Instagram, Snapchat, Tumblr
which offer the same function although through different interfaces.
II. Although beneficial, social networks also pose threats to its users.
A. Social media may promote spread of fake information
1. Fake and parody accounts of news outlets worldwide post different
news articles that are either hoax or untrue.
2. On the other hand, social media personalities may share false
information from fake websites and blogs.
B. Social media users are vulnerable to identity theft.
1. Profiles can be easily accessed before, so anyone can use the
information in others profile to create a new account and use this
gathered information against the person.
2. Another factor is creation of an account, especially in Facebook, is
so easy that anyone can create several dummy accounts for
whatever purpose they want to use it.
C. Social networks may be an environment that promotes rape culture,
catcalling and cybersex.
1. Virtual groups may be created where perverted individuals share
their sexually-explicit content to others in exchange of another.
2. Instant messaging in Facebook also promotes cybersex.
3. Since commenting is a thing, one can comment malicious things to
a person who posted, promoting catcall culture and shaming.
III. There are several groups and pages in Facebook that distribute sexually-
explicit content and pornography.
A. The privacy of these groups is either private or closed, and one must agree
to their terms and conditions in order to join the said groups.
B. In order to prolong your stay in the aforementioned groups, you must let
them know that you are an active user.
1. Members must post different forms of ambag to feed the sexual
appetite of the group community.
2. Members must respond to the ambag by commenting Amen or
the likes.
C. The group members may also invite fellow members to engage in group
chats for a private exchange of pornographic stuff.
IV. There are many forms of ambag a member can contribute to the community.
A. Selfies/Pictures of any person posted without his/her consent.
B. Sex videos and scandals of either unknown or famous personalities
C. Hardcore pornography
D. Child pornography
V. Instead of ignoring the practice and letting it spread, we must do something to
stop it.
A. Report the pages/accounts that promote rape culture
B. Be vigilant and engage in online discussions. Do not be afraid to voice out.
C. Gather evidences to be submitted to proper authorities.
Summary Step: Pornography has been in the world wide web for a long time. Whats
more disturbing to this practice is the fast spread of malicious content and its proximity to
many users in the social media. Although it may seem impossible to deal with the
Hokage in Filipino Facebook due to the ever-changing world of internet, we can still do
something about it. While the authorities like NBI are doing their best to identify and catch
the real people behind the accounts, slowing down and stopping their motives through
reporting is the best thing that we can do with given the circumstances.
