There is no doubt that librarians and those with an MLS are best-equipped to apply classification
schemes to information and knowledge, and therefore it is not necessary for these professionals to
seek assistances elsewhere because, after all, the organization of information is a core subject of the
LIS curriculum. (1) T____ or F____

It used to be that libraries are warehouses of books (and information and knowledge). As library
collections now include digital materials, what function (a one-word function) of the LIS profession,
broadly defined, is particularly challenged (2) List the one word, and explain how.

One function of the LIS profession is preservation, or the protection of items of information
and knowledge. Storage media on computer drives and files, or floppy or zip disks may fall
victim to impermanent electronic text and viruses or other external attacks on the system.

What has been an initiative carried out by a library system in the United States in order to grapple
with the impact of eBooks on their collections and their relationship with publishers? Write a few
sentences to answer this question. (2)

One initiative carried out by the Massachusetts Library System (MLS) was the pilot
program that allowed all participating libraries to access one broad, common collection of
eBooks. Due to this, all individual libraries and regional networks now have their own
possession of eBook collections.
