I am pleased to recommend Jerrica Vanderkarr for a classroom teaching position. Jerrica completed a
sixteen week long term substitute position in my classroom at Madison Academy. She taught a self contained
classroom of 27 students.

Throughout her assignment, Jerrica planned effectively for instruction of the fifth grade common core
standards. She was well organized and prepared for each day. She infused creative, engaging activities into
her lessons and the student truly enjoyed learning the content presented. Jerrica continually assessed
students both formally and informally and used the data to guide her instruction. She met the diverse needs of
the students, assisting those who struggled and challenging those who were advanced.

Jerrica has excellent classroom management skills. When presented with common classroom
hindrances, she adjusted quickly to ensure they did not interfere with learning. Jerricas expectations were
clearly presented and remained consistent. Moreover, she developed several classroom policies and
procedures to ensure the classroom ran smoothly. During her time spent in the classroom, Jerrica cultivated
positive relationships with the students and earned their respect.

For the duration of her time at Madison Academy, Jerrica established excellent working relationships
with other staff members, administration and parents. I went on maternity leave sooner than expected,
leaving Jerrica with un-finalized plans and unexplained details. She collaborated with other staff to improve
student behavior and learn school procedures. Additionally, she established and maintained communication
with parents.

On a personal note, I will add that I was very thankful to have Jerrica in my classroom while I was on
leave. While out with my newborn son, my mind was at ease knowing my students were in great hands.
Jerricas teaching ability, enthusiasm and love of teaching will make her a very valuable asset to any school
team.
