Set-Up:
1. Take 4/6/7 tiles for 2/3/4 players and arrange them as shown on page 3. Variant: Arrange anyway you want.
Only rule is that Barbarian Villages cant be touching each other.
2. Count the number of spaces around each Barbarian Village and put VP tokens equal to that on the village space.
3. Use 4/6/7 temples with 2/3/4 players. Use 10/15/20 Wheat, Clay, Wood, and Stone in resource pool with 2/3/4
players. Money and VP tokens are unlimited. Choose a start player, they get the 1st player card.
4. All players take 1 player board and put 2 of each building type (wooden piece) on the matching column.
Variant: players can secretly choose their starting 10 buildings. For expert players, reduce starting building #.
5. All players take 1 of the 4 resources, 5 VP, and 5 coins. Shuffle deck, deal everyone 5 cards for starting hand.

Game Flow:
On a players turn, choose to either A) Construct a Building or B) Make an Offering to the Gods.
If at turn end, you have zero cards in hand, this is the only time you can free draw back up to 5.
Army means Military Building and Ship means Maritime Building
Can never have more than 10 cards in hand. If you were to draw more, dont!

A. Construct a Building:
Play a card from your hand above the matching color with at least 1 available wooden building.
If no buildings are available for a certain color (column), then you cant play the matching color card.
Pay the cost in resources/coins. At any time 4 coins can count as any resource.
Place the wooden building corresponding to the color card you played from your player board in a
region where you already have a building or in an empty adjacent area.
Only 1 color per area! Different players cannot share an area.
Never can 2 buildings of the same type (shape) be in the same area. Cannot construct in a Barbarian
Village, even if it is empty of VP.
If the building is the first for the game, it must be placed around the edge of the board, and at least
2 spaces away from an opponent, if possible.
Maritime buildings MUST go in water, and no other buildings can be constructed in water.
May pay 3 VP when placing a building to place at the boards edge like at the beginning.
In the column you played your card, may trigger each cards ability starting with the bottom card
and moving up to the card you just played (top card).

Temples:
Temples are special buildings that are built with Purple cards. Place first one in the notched area of
player board. Before a 2nd temple can be built by a player, they must first build a building from all 5
other columns. Same goes for the 3rd and 4th temples.
When playing a purple card, pay the cost, and place the Temple in an area with one of your buildings
and no other temples. If only an Army is with a Temple, cant move the Army.
Unlike other buildings, you can still play a purple card if no temples can be placed to earn points.

Barbarian Villages:
Barbarian Villages are attacked and raided immediately when all spaces surrounding it are occupied
by a mixture of player buildings and at least 1 army is present.
Player with the most military buildings present gets all the VP. If tied, the player with the most
buildings gets the VP. If still tied, split the VP evenly.
Once empty, the area is no longer considered a Barbarian Village for purposes of cards, but still cant
build in this area.
B. Make an Offering to the Gods:
Take any number of cards from your hand that you wish to discard, pick one of the cards and place it
on top to activate the color of this card. Place them all in the discard pile. Depending on the color
of the top card and number discarded, you will earn a reward as followed:

Neptune (Blue): Take 2 gold per card discarded, move 1 Maritime building to your player board
from the stock, draw back up to 5 cards.
Ceres (Green): Take any resource you want per card discarded. Move 1 production building from
the stock to your player board, draw back up to 5 cards.
Minerva (Yellow): Draw back up to 5 cards first, then draw a card per card discarded. Can never
have more than 10 cards in your hand. Move 1 Science building from the stock to your board.
Vesta (Brown): If you discarded 1 card, earn 1 VP, if you discarded 2 or more cards, earn 2 VP.
Move 1 Civil building from the stock to your player board. Draw back up to 5 cards.
Mars (Red): Take 1 wooden building of your choice per card discarded. Draw back up to 5 cards.
Jupiter (Purple): Wild card, choose one of the above Gods.

End Game:
Game triggers when either all the temples are built, or all barbarian villages are empty.
Finish the current round (refer to 1st player marker), then everyone gets 1 last turn.
For each of the 5 resources in the game (Wood, Stone, Clay, Wheat, Coins), the player with the most at the end
of the game will earn 2 VP for each. If tied for most, everyone earns 2 VP.
Add up VP from tokens, Purple Cards, and end game bonuses, winner is player with most VP! No tie-breakers.

Less Luck Variant:

Once per game, when constructing a building you may take any card and play it face down in any column you
wish, paying a coin cost equal to the location of this card in the column (1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th).
Place a building of the color you chose like normal and activate all the other cards, but dont get any reward for
this card.
This optional rule cant be used to build a temple itself, but it can count as one of the 5 that must be built before
a temple can be built.
