For the Peace of the World

Eternal God, in whose perfect Kingdom no sword is drawn but the sword of righteousness, and no
strength known but the strength of love: We pray thee so mightily to shed and spread abroad Thy
Spirit, that all people and ranks may be gathered under one banner, of the Prince of Peace; as chil-
dren of one God and Father of all; to whom be dominion and glory now and forever. Amen.
For the School
Bless, O Lord, we pray Thee, this School. Cherish and strengthen all that is worthy in it. Give to
those who teach, the spirit of wisdom and understanding; to those who learn, the willing ear and
guileless mind; and grant that among all the changes and chances of this mortal life, they may be
defended by Thy most gracious and ready help. Through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Heavenly Father, from whom all fatherhood in heaven and earth is named; bless, we beseech Thee,
all children, and give to their parents Thy spirit of wisdom and love; so that the home in which they
grow up may be to them an image of Thy kingdom; and the care of their parents a likeness of Thy

Lift up your hearts!” We lift them, Lord, to Thee; Above the swamps of subterfuge and shame,
Here at Thy feet none other may we see; The deeds, the thoughts, that honor may not name,
“Lift up your hearts!” E’en so, with one accord, The halting tongue that dares not tell the whole,
We lift them up, we lift them to the Lord. O Lord of Truth, lift every Christian soul!

Above the level of the former years, Lift every gift that Thou Thyself hast given;
The mire of sin, the slough of guilty fears, Low lies the best till lifted up to heaven;
The mist of doubt, the blight of love’s decay, Low lie the bounding heart, the teeming brain,
O Lord of Light, lift all our hearts today! Till, sent from God, they mount to God again.

Then, as the trumpet call, in after years,

“Lift up your hearts!” rings pealing in our ears,
Still shall those hearts respond, with full accord
“We lift them up, we lift them to the Lord!”

THE BLESSING
