Putting the “Fun” Back into
Horses
Next Meeting: Tuesday, June 22, 2010, at The Stanley
Tavern, at 7:30.
The meeting commenced at 7:35 PM, with 20 members and 3 guests present.
The minutes were read with one clarification. In order for Kathy Johnston to
have a banner in the riding ring she must be a Gold Sponsor. The minutes were T h e S ta n le y
corrected and accepted by Cindy Paxton, and seconded by Lorraine Schaaf.

SPORTS: Our first gymkhana is this Sunday, May 30. Open 7 days a week
There was a concern that people may complain about the new lead line rule.
We are a “fun” club, and we strive to assist and educate our youth for they are the
12 Noon to 1 a.m.
future. The gymkhanas are for everyone, at all skill and speed levels, not just for those Kakabeka, Falls, ON
who wish to race to win.
Lorraine has a couple stick horses and OAS is willing to let us use theirs as
well.
Cindy has found all the club flags and they will be available at our first gymkhana.
SHOW: There has been some sponsorships received. Some show class and Year End High Point sponsorships are still needed. Any
member who can sponsor, or any member who may know of a potential sponsor, please contact Tammy.
Show entry forms are available from Tammy and a variety of places. They are also available online to print at our website, or by emailing
the club. An entry form will also be attached to the newsletter. Please fill out show entries and get them handed in prior to the day of show.
Payment is not due until the show date.
PUBLICITY: Shannon is still in contact with the mall in hopes of setting up a display. We
might be able to sell our club T-shirts and hats at the display but it’s still yet unclear since we
are a non-profit club.
The Chronicle Journal was contacted and they may be at our gymkhana on
Sunday to do a write up and take pictures. Certified Horseman
Association
YOUTH: T-shirts and hats will be available at all our club events. They have started to do Level 2 English &
their fundraising. Western Coach
OLD BUSINESS: The last of the meat orders are due at the May meeting. The pickup

Saddle Seat, Hunter
NEW BUSINESS: The BBQs are doing well, but sadly may not be able to continue, Over Fences, Gymkhana
although Thunder Bay Feeds would love us to do so. This will result in a major loss & Trail. of
revenue and will impair our future events, rewards, and possibly the future of our
club. Without fundraising, we would not be able to put on the events and purchase
the awards for our High Point and Year End winners.
This entire club is run strictly on volunteers. Without the help from the membership, we fear the club may decline and
eventually fall. Unfortunately, it is always the same people that come out to the meetings and the same volunteers running the
events. These volunteers are getting run down and tired of being the only ones who seem to want to help the club. We
appreciate the time they set aside from their own busy lives, employment, chores, family, and time in the saddle to make time for
us. Some current and past volunteers do not even participate in our riding events but come and help out to spread the joy of
horses and help ease the work load from their fellow horse enthusiasts.
This year we have an increased need for new volunteers. It does not matter if you have the time to help at only one
event. It does not matter if you only have the time for a few hours or if you even relieve a volunteer from their position for a short
while. What matters is if you try to make the time to volunteer as much or little that you can. Everything counts! We have
enough members that if everyone lent a helping hand, the stress would be lifted from the overwhelmed volunteers, and the
workload would be evenly distributed throughout the membership. So please, if you could help out, don’t hesitate to contact a
Director or Executive, or show up at the event, and someone will gladly show you how to help.
Bill would like to thank everyone who came to help with the BBQ at the Odena during the May long weekend, it
was a success.
The Odena would like us to set up our BBQ outside during the Kakabeka Street Fair. The Street Fair is a 3 day event
and we would need teams to work 4 hour shifts. We are hoping with our season starting we will have a larger pool of members
who will be able to help and make this happen! Please contact Frank or Bill if you are interested.
Rob, Frank and Phil will be working on the Sponsorship Board. To be included on this board you must be a minimum
$100 cash sponsor. They hope to have the board ready for our first gymkhana.
Maryann Oliphant has always got Tbaytel to donate our website. The domain was expiring and she automatically got
Tbaytel to donate it again this year. Thanks Maryann!
Thunder Country Arabian Horse Association requested if we could post their show rules in our newsletter since they have 6 Arab classes in
our shows. Their show rules are as follows:
• Snaffle bit approved for use in OAS Arabian (pure and part) classes on horses of any age and points can be
collected for yearend awards *
• Point scoring is reverse of placings (1st – 6 pts, 2nd – 5 pts, 3rd – 4 pts, 4th – 3 pts, 5th – 2 pts, and 6th – 1 pt)
• Out of town show results must be signed on AHA Region 10 Point System Reporting Form by show secretary (these
are available upon request)
5. Pure Bred and Part Bred Versatile horse (must compete in at least 3 divisions)
*Snaffle bits are not permitted in LLHA shows for horses aged 6 and up, and shank bits must be worn in the Arab classes for the
