related land forms. Glaciers and their erosional and depositional land forms. Geological work
of wind, its types, drainage pattern, stream meandering and development of flood plains.
The erosional and depositional work of river and sea, development of coastal land forms.
2. Structural Geology
Introduction of folds, faults, joints, cleavage, foliation, lineation. Introduction to plate
tectonics, mountain building processes, deformation by fracturing and folding. Introduction
to the major faults like MBT, MMT and MKT.
3. Paleontology
Fossils, fossilization, mode of fossil preservations, altered and unaltered hard parts,
trace fossils, geological significance of fossils, Index/Guide fossils, Geological Timescale,
Dating of rocks and earth history.
4. Stratigraphy and Sedimentology
Principles of Stratigraphy, stratigraphic codes and nomenclature, stratigraphy of the
Salt Range. Sedimentry rocks, weathering, transportation and deposition, types of
sedimentary rocks e.g. clastic, non clastic, chemical rocks and evaporites.
