Health Information Resources

On the Library Homepage, http://taos.unm.edu/library/, click on the Research Database button on


the left hand side of the screen. The Library Databases list will appear. Listed below are the
databases which concentrate on medical and nursing information but this screen will also give you
access to 1000s of databases with access to fulltext, scholarly articles.

HEALTH & WELLNESS RESOURCE CENTER


Provides links to health related topics and includes Health Assessment Tools, Drug Finder,
Trusted Sites and a Medical Dictionary. General information about diseases and conditions and
topics in the news.
Access to fullltext, scholarly articles, images and videos.
You can access Health & Wellness Resource Center from an off-campus computer as well. Enter
the URL: http://infotrac.galegroup.com/itweb/taos87904 in the address bar of your web browser.

EBSCOhost DATABASES
Provides fulltext and citations to articles from scholarly journals from a variety of databases. A sample
of those includes:
CINAHL PLUS: The worlds most comprehensive source of fulltext for nursing & allied health
journals with full text articles dating back to 1937. Also includes Evidence-Based care sheets,
Quick Lessons and Continuing Education Modules.
PsycArticles and PsycINFO: from the American Psychological Association (APA), a definitive
source of tulltext, peer-reviewed scholarly and scientific articles.
ACADEMIC SEARCH COMPLETE: Academic Search Complete is the world's most valuable
and comprehensive scholarly, multi-disciplinary fulltext database, with more than 7,900 full-text
periodicals, including more than 6,800 peer-reviewed journals.
EDUCATION RESEARCH COMPLETE: Education Research Complete is the definitive online
resource for education research including health education.
Enter the URL: http://search.epnet.com to access EBSCOhost databases from off campus. The

FIRSTSEARCH DATABASES
The following provide citation information and some fulltext but the fulltext can be obtained through
the librarys interlibrary loan service if not found in these databases
Medline All areas of medicine, including dentistry and nursing
Proceedings an OCLC index of worldwide conference proceedings
WorldCat catalog of books and other materials from libraries worldwide

Research Library -Search periodicals on health subjects such as medical
conditions, substance abuse, insurance, health policy, and more in this

Academic OneFile - Over 50 Academic Nursing Journals, magazines, book
reviews and multimedia. Academic OneFile is the premier source for peer-
reviewed, fulltext articles from the world's leading journals and reference
sources.
Nursing and Allied Health Collection All aspects of the Nursing profession
from direct patient care to health care administration.

LIBROS online catalog - The "word" LIBROS means LIBRary Online System. LIBROS contains records for
items that are available through the UNM-Taos Library as well as about 40 other academic and research
libraries across the state. These records describe a variety of media. Any items found that are not available at
the UNM-Taos library can be obtained through the librarys interlibrary loan service.

UNM Health Sciences Library and Informatics Center their homepage can be accessed by entering the
URL: http://hsc.unm.edu/library . This page can link you to recent health news articles, Native Health Database,
and information about UNMs health sciences programs but most of the resources are for UNM Main Campus
students only. You can link to the library catalog for HSLIC form this homepage or it can be accessed directly

PUBMED Database
www.pubmed.gov A service of the U.S. National Library of Medicine and the National Institute of
Health that includes over 20 million citations from MEDLINE, and other life science journals for
biomedical articles back to 1948. PubMed includes links to full text articles, online books, and other
related resources.

RESEARCH TIPS:
Always use the Advanced Search option whenever possible.
Always use the Boolean Operators {and, or, not} when using keyword
searching for more relevant results.
Look for the options to Limit your results or Modify your results.
