(vi) Question numbers 24 to 26 are long answer questions and carry 5 marks each.

11) A welding fuel gas contains carbon and hydrogen only. Burning a small sample
of it in oxygen gives 3.38g carbon dioxide, 0.690g of water and no other
products. A volume of 10.0L (measured at STP) of this welding gas is found to
weigh 11.6 g. Calculate (i) empirical formula (ii) molar mass of the gas and (iii)
molecular formula

enthalpy?

14) What will be the pressure of the gas mixture when 0.5L of H2 at 0.8 bar and at
2.0L of oxygen at 0.7 bar are introduced in a 1L vessel at 27C?

ii) 0.5 gm of an organic compound on kjeldahls analysis gave enough ammonia
to just neutralize 20 ml of 0.5 M H2SO4. Find the % of nitrogen in the compound.

22) i) Which of the two; O2NCH2CH2O- or CH3CH2O- is expected to be more stable


and why?

ii) Write the possible isomers with molecular formula C3H8O.

23) Pollution of water originates from human activities, industrial waste etc. Organic
waste, heavy metals also creates water pollution. Immersion of statues of Durga,
Ganesha etc. also pollute water. An association of Chitranjen Park decided not to
immerse statues in river. This step is appreciated by the Govt. And by other NGO
etc.

a) What should be done to reduce water pollution?

24) i) On the basis of VSEPR theory, predict the shape of the following:

ii) Give reason: - H2+ and H2- have the same bond order but H2+ is more stable.
iii) Out of o-nitrophenol and p-nitrophenol, which has the higher boiling point
and why?
iv) Find the percentage of ionic character of HCl. Given that observed dipole
movement is 1.03D and the bond length is 1.275

(i) Which out of NH3 and NF3 has higher dipole moment and why?
(ii) Compare the relative stability of the following species and indicate the magnetic
properties: - O22-, O2-.

25) Explain why?


(i) Boric acid is a monobasic lewis acid.
(ii) Acidic strength of BI3 is more than BF3.
(iii)CO2 is a gas but SIO2 is solid at room temperature.
(iv) SiF62- is known but SiCl62- is not known.
(v) What is inorganic benzene and why it is so called?
Or,
When mental X is treated with sodium hydroxide, a white precipitate (A) is
obtained, which is soluble in excess of NaOH to give soluble complex (B).
Compound (A) is soluble in dilute HCl to form compound (C). The compound
(A) when heated strongly gives (D), which is used to extract metal. Identify (X),
(A), (B), (C) and (D). Write suitable equations to support their identities.

26) i) Addition of HBr to propene yields 2- bromopropane, while in presence of


benzoyl peroxide, the same reaction yields 1-bromopropane. Explain and give
mechanism.
ii) An alkene on ozonolysis gives two moles of CHO. Write the structure and
IUPAC name of the compound. CHO
