The policies protect students from issues including, but not limited to, bullying and sexual
harassment whilst on placement. The policies also protect the placement student from
exploitation (or situations of liability) in the placement setting e.g. we are not allowed to
be responsible for a class whilst on placement without a supervising teacher in the
classroom this is also for liability and insurance reasons whilst covered by University of
Melbourne insurance.
Under the placement policies families are insured that they are protected from having their
childs confidential information removed from the school without their permission (student
work/assessments/formal assessments etc). Candidates must seek consent from families
(and the school) to work with their child for purposes of intervention.
Student work/assessment may only be removed with permission and all information
relating to the identity of the child must be removed/de-identified.
Child safety is also incorporated into the polices via Working with children check/VIT
registration to ensure child safety.
Q5) What restrictions do they put on you and your practices as learning interventionist
teachers?
We must:
behave in a professional way with all parties whilst on placement (e.g. mentor,
all co-workers and students) at all times.
seek consent to work with students for intervention purposes. We may not
commence prior to given consent by parents/guardians and the school
Attend all placement days (15 days) and advise the school co-ordinator or
mentor ASAP if sick and unable to attend placement
Behave in sensitive and appropriate ways when engaging in social media that
students might be able to access
not remove student or school data or I.P. without the consent of the school
maintain student confidentiality at all time prior to, during and after the
placement
