LESSON 6: Pattern Elephant
TIME: 60 minutes
LEARNING OBJECTIVES:
By the end of this lesson students will begin to create a patterned elephant displaying
elements of line, pattern and color and developing scissor skills.
PREREQUISITE KNOWLEDGE/SKILL:
Knowledge of line and pattern
Procedure for scissor use
Painting procedures
INSTRUCTIONAL STRATEGIES:
Review line and pattern
Refer to Elmer book showing illustrations
Instruct Pattern Elephant assignment
Demonstrate assignment
Review scissor and painting procedures

Scissors

LESSON TIMELINE:
2 minutes-Greet class and settle students at seats
1 minute- Assemble students to large instruction table
4 minutes- Review line and pattern posters and discuss illustrations in Elmer
3 minutes- Introduce Pattern Elephant assignment showing example
6 minutes- Review watercolor painting and scissor procedures
8 minutes- Instruct and demonstrate assignment
2 minutes- Direct students to seats and distribute materials and supplies
20 minutes- Students work on assignment as teacher facilitates
7 minutes- Teacher signals end of studio time and has students clean up by tables
1 minutes- Students return to desks
5 minutes- Teacher collects students work and students reflect on activity
1 minutes-Students lined up and dismissed.
