POLLUTION
What causes air pollution? Air pollution results
mainly from the incomplete combustion of several fuels, such as coal, petrol and wood. The primary sources of pollution from combustion are furnaces in factories, engines in vehicles and burning of trash, in the form of particles or gases. Air Pollution is a harmful substances to the atmosphere resulting in damage to the environment, human health, and quality of life. One of many forms of air pollution occurs inside homes, schools, offices, in cities , across continents and even globally. Air pollution causes damage to the environment. Air pollution cause depletion of the ozone layer, which allows a greater amount of ultraviolet rays to earth, that can be harmful for humans. Some air pollutants return to earth in the form of acid rain , which it can corrode statues and buildings, damage crops, forests, makes lakes, and streams unsuitable for fish and other plant and animal life .Smog is another result from air pollutant which is in the form of fog that is harmful to humans.
Global warming can also be a cause by air
pollutants, which causes the earth temperatures to increase. This effects the whole earth as one , and leading to a rise in global average temperatures. Air pollution is changing the earths environment , if we continue polluting we can have serious consequences that can change the earth and health of humans.
As a result of increasing traffic, city size, economic
development, and industrialization, we have more air pollution problems than ever before. A formal definition of air pollution is as follows:
The presence in the atmosphere of one or more
contaminants in such quality and for such duration as is injurious, or tends to be injurious, to human health or welfare, animal or plant life.
Air pollution can cause health problems and can
also damage the natural world. So, who are the main contributors to air pollution? In cities, where air pollution is the worst, transportation is one of the major causes. The combustion of gasoline in automobiles, trucks, and airplanes produces a number of major pollutants into the air. Some of these contaminants include carbon monoxide, nitrogen oxides, gaseous hydrocarbons, and lead. When exposed to sunlight, many of these chemicals combine to form additional pollutants that are very harmful. One of these contaminants, nitrogen dioxide, creates smog in the air.
Consequently, there are more and more health
problems arising from the increasing amounts of pollution. Small children and the elderly are most likely to feel the effects. Some of the short-term effects include irritation to the eyes, and more.
Discipline on Children
Being parents is one of the most difficult
tasks. Children are not born with a 'handbook'. Thus, deciding the appropiate way to raise a child is complicated. In addition, one of the most delicate aspects of raising children is discipline. It can be very hard for parents to decide what to do when the children need to be punished. Parents might get frustrated with their children's behaviour and may consider corporal punishment. However, parents should not use corporal punishment to discipline their children. Children get hurt when parents use corporal punishment. Physical agression is an agression, even if it is as 'meaningless' as spanking. Sometime parents might not control their strenght and really hurt their children. Children are weaker than adults. Hence, children are easier to get seriously hurt. Also, sometimes parents punish their children in more violent ways than spanking. For instance, some parents might hit their children with a belt or
In addition, corporal punishment causes emotional
and mental problems in children. The mere act of spanking children could mark them for the rest of their lives. If children are punished physically they might feel rejected by their parents. In the same way, these children could suffer from depression or develop hatred toward their parents. Similarly, the parents experience emotional and mental problems. For instance, after punishing their children the parents might feel that they were very severe or cruel. Also, parents might feel guilty about hurting their children. Furthermore, children who were corporally punished are more likely to, in the future, commit the same acts whit their own children.
Instead considering corporal punishment, parents
should think about other ways to discipline their children. By this I don't mean calling the children demeaning names or insulting them, this could result in a way more harmful kind of punishment. What parents should do is talk to them and advice them not to do repeat the same bad attitude again.
Reuse, Reduce, Recycle
Recycledont just toss everything in the trash.
Lots of things (like cans, bottles, paper, and cardboard) can be remade into either the same kind of thing or new products. Making new items from recycled ones also takes less energy and fewer resources than making products from brand new materials.
Just about anything in your home (or office or
school, etc.) that cannot be reused CAN be recycled into something else. You'd be amazed what can be done with a recycled product! A recycled soda bottle, can be made into T-shirts, combs, or hundreds of other plastic goods that can be used for many years. Even your brand new computer case might be made from ordinary recycled plastics. And paper products can take on different forms as well; an old phone book or coloring book might become one of your school books or a notebook. Don't throw away anything that can be recycled!
Reduce/Reduction: to make something smaller or
use less, resulting in a smaller amount of waste. "Source reduction" is reducing waste before you purchase it, or by purchasing products that are not wasteful in their packaging or use. A key part of waste "reduction" is "conservation" using natural resources wisely, and using less than usual in order avoid waste. You can "reuse" materials in their original form instead of throwing them away, or pass those materials on to others who could use them too! Remember, one man's trash is another man's treasure!
When you do use disposables like plastic cups,
plates, utensils, and plastic food storage bags, don't throw them away! Wash and reuse them most of them will last for a long time with many uses. They may not cost much to replace, but it doesn't make any more sense to throw away those things than it does to throw away your bicycle after one use.
