How to make Water Offerings
If one wishes to make water offerings to Shkyamuni, begin with Refuge and Bodhicitta.2 Then:
rang nyid kay jik gi pay day dn la / pel gyalwa Shakya Senge kutog ser tso ma ta wu zhal jig
chag nyi sa nn dang nyam zhag gi chagya chen / tshan zangpo sumchu tsa nyi dang pe chey
zang po gyy chu tro pa dom gang wa / zer thaye pa tro wa / na za chogo sum dang den pai
thk kar da way kyil khor gyi teng du /
In an instant oneself appears as the Glorious Victor Shkya Senge,3 the color of refined gold,
with one face and two arms. His right hand is in the earth-touching mudra, His right is in the
mudra of meditative equipoise. He is adorned with the thirty-major and eighty minor marks, and
a halo extends around His body. Limitless rays of light emanate out. He wears the threefold robes
of a fully ordained monk (bhiku). At His heart, atop a moon disc, sits the mantra:
Tadyath O Mune Mune Mahmunaye Svh
So it is, O Sage, Sage, to the Great Sage, Svh!
Focus on the revolving mantra garland. After reciting the mantra an appropriate number of
times,4 make offerings [through chanting and performing mudras]:
Then, to purify all negativities of all sentient beings of the three realms,5 recite this praise:
Ch kyi khor lo kor dzay pa / Shkya Senge de la d
To you who turn the Wheel of Dharma, Shkya Senge, I bow!
Then, perform the mudra of three points (or with the ring finger of) the right hand,6 toward the
offerings. Then, recite three times:
1 dpe mdzod indicates a library and stong skor is an area in Tibet. Nang gter means inner treasury.
2 The prayers are not included here. They can be general refuge and bodhicitta prayers.
3 Lion of Shkyas, an epithet of Shkyamuni Buddha.
4 Generally, the numbers prescribed are 7, 21, 108, or any multiple of 108.
5 I.e. the desire realm (kmadhtu), form realm (rpadhtu), and formless ream (arpyadhtu).
6 rtse gsum gyi phyag rgya. This literally means three pointed mudra, but could refer to the mudra of offering by
extending the ring finger.
O Sarvakari H
O, All-performing, Hu!
N thamche rin po chey n yang shing gya chewa tibg sum dang nyam par gyur
The vessel containing all previous substances becomes vast and spacious, equal to the three-
thousand-fold world system.
Make the same mudra toward the offerings and recite, three times:
O Sarvasiddhi Hm
O, All-Accomplishing, Hm!
Ch thamchay lha dzay kyi dtsi nam khay kham thamchay kheng par gyur
The nectar (amrita) which is the divine substance endowed with all tastes completely fills up the
expanse of space!
Thinking that all guests of samsara and nirvana are pleased and satisfied by the offerings, recite
the following mantra seven times:
Nma Sarva Tathgata Avalokite O Sambhara Sambhara H
Homage, all Tathgatas, Looking down upon us, O Bestower, Bestower, H!
Then, recite:
With these words, dedicate the merit and also bestow the gift of Dharma. Then, thinking that the guests
have dispersed, dedicate and make aspirations that the country is free from all disease and negativities
and harm are expelled.

From the ocean of Samsara, may I free all beings.
