Abstract: The present art icle f irst gives a brief survey t o t he generic st ruct ure pot ent ial of conf lict discourse, and t hen st udies t he generic struct ures
of t he quarrelling discourse, especially it s dist inct st ruct ural feat ures in pref erence struct ures an d repet it ions, overlapping, interrupt ions and insult s an d as-

sault s. As a result, w e find t hat , as an import ant subdivision of conflict discourse, quarrelling discourse has its ow n unique feat ures in pref erence struct ures

and repetit ions, overlapping, int erruptions and insults and assault s.
