6.1 Continuous Learning


Candidates demonstrate continual growth in knowledge and skills of current and emerging
technologies and apply them to improve personal productivity and professional practice. (PSC
6.1/ISTE 6a, 6b)

The attached artifact is from a lunch and learn opportunity that I attended at Collins Hill High
School. The lunch and learn was about Google tools and how to integrate them into our learning
management system that the school uses, eClass. The professional development opportunity was
provided by a technology leaders at the school. The PD took place during the lunch hour so had
to be to the point and very focused. Teachers were given the invitation for the lunch and learn
weeks before the actual event and were given details on what the professional development will
cover.

This artifact shows my mastery of standard 6.1 by showing that I can demonstrate continual
growth in knowledge and skills of current and emerging technologies and apply them to improve
personal productivity and professional practice. I showed this continual growth in knowledge
and skills of current and emerging technologies by attending professional development and
learning about new technology and strategies that could be implemented in the classroom. From
this professional learning opportunity I improved my personal productivity and professional
practice by applying what I learned into my teaching practices.

I learned through this experience that in order to continue to grow as a teacher and a technology
leader I need to be continually learning to improve my skills and knowledge. I also learned that
professional learning opportunities do not have to be long but do need to be focused and very
detailed. It is important for technology leaders and teachers to find time to attend these
opportunities, take away key information, and then apply it to their teaching and pedagogy. If I
could have changed anything about the experience I would have liked to have follow up from the
technology leader on implementing Google tools into my eClass page. The technology leader did
not follow up with the teachers or send out survey to measure the effectiveness.

The experience impacts the school by providing opportunities for the teachers to continue to
learn more about the technology tools that available to enhance student learning. By attending
more opportunities like this teachers will begin to enhance their lessons by creating authentic
learning experiences and encourage the students to use higher order thinking skills. The impact
can be assessed through teacher observations and surveys.
