Ramadan Poem
Ramadan is here, Here is Ramadan.
Ramadan is coming, The time that is blessed.

Ramadan is coming, The time we love best.

The month in which the Qur'an was sent;

A time of great blessing in which to repent.

Fasting for Allah is a great Muslim deed;

Controlling desires and Suppressing greed.

Ramadan is coming, Increase your Iman.

Ramadan is coming, Recite the Qur'an.

Taking "Suhur" in the dead of the Night;

No eating no drinking during the daylight.

Refrain from bad deeds and repent your soul;

The pleasure of Allah is our only goal

Ramadan is coming, so let us prepare.

Ramadan is coming; there is peace everywhere,

Even if there is hunger, remember your Lord

And wait until 'Iftar' to earn your reward.

Fasting is one of the gifts of Allah

Given to believers to increase 'Taqwah'.

Ramadan is here, here is Ramadan.

Ramadan is coming, so seek the new Moon.

Ramadan is coming, it will be here soon.

We pray to Allah to put right our hearts;

Ask for forgiveness from Allah and make a new start.

Raising our hands we ask for his 'Rahmaa';

Hear us our Lord and grant us 'Jannah'.

Story time
Yummy said Rahima I can smell Mummy cooking. Rahima woke up in the middle
of the night. It was the month of Ramadan and Rahima was very excited. Grandma
told her that in the month of Ramadan Allah forgives people when they do good
actions.Rahimas sister Sumaya woke up sleepily. They washed their face and mouth
and went downstairs. Mummy gave them different types of food to eat.
Remember girls you get a lot of reward when you get up in the middle of the night
and eat. This time is called suhoor

At school Miss Zulfa told them that Ramadan is a month when the evil Shaytaan is
locked up. He makes people do so much bad things like steal, lie and fight.
And he makes people talk bad things about others said Masum
Thats right said Miss Zulfa Well done Masum
Miss Zulfa said that in Ramadan people are doing a lot of things. There are people in
the Mosque praying and reading the Quran.
People want to do a lot of good things she said
Why? asked Iqra Anjum. So they can get a lot of rewards from Allah Allah
promised he will give rewards to those who do well.
What kind of things can we do? asked Rahima. We can help our Mummy and
Daddy at home said Miss Zulfa We can read Islamic books and play
Islamic games to learn more about Islam. There is so much we can do

Everyone was thinking what they can do. They all had different ideas in mind.
We also remember poor people and give money, food and clothes to them. Allah
told us to give Zakah and Sadaqa
Is that charity? asked Rahima. Yes Mashallah said Miss Zulfa Inshallah it will
help the people who really need it and make everybody happy
I know some charities said Rahima My Daddy works for some

Miss Zulfa smiled at her We should help them as much as we can

In this month the holy Quran was given to Prophet Muhammad (s). He was in a cave
when a special angel called Jibrail came and told him to read.
Miss said Anas putting his hands up My Mummy told me something about
ififth
Iftar said Miss Zulfa Thats when we break our fast at sunset before it becomes
very dark, you should eat food at that time but not too much or else you may burst
everyone started to laugh.

Miss Zulfa told them that at night time people pray a special prayer called Tarawih.
All mosques do this which is 20 rakah. Thats so long said Imran Ill be tired
Dont worry said Miss Zulfa Allah will reward us all. Young people do not have to
pray it, but it is a great Sunnah
Rahima prayed secretly to Allah. She wanted to get a lot of rewards from Allah by
doing good. Maybe I could help Mummy at home in the kitchen and help Daddy
clean up the garage.

Hadith of the day

Once upon a time
Many many years ago, there once flourished a beautiful kingdom in ancient India. Its
streams flowed with the pure waters of the Ganges, and its birds sang songs of love
and beauty. The smell of its soil brought back childhood dreams and its winds blew
stories of hope. This little jewel of a kingdom was ruled by a very generous and
devoted King who had three sons. The King was getting old and so his concern for
the well being of his people after his death was increasing each day.

The King was known for his righteousness and justice. He was impartial and did not
immediately favor his sons to become heirs to the royal throne. He wanted to find
the most suitable person to be crowned as King after his death. So he summoned a
committee of his top advisors to find him the next King. They searched far and wide
looking into distant corners of the kingdom to find the most eligible leader.
However after much consideration they all came up with a unanimous decision.
They felt that all the virtues required to be King were present only in the Kings
three sons.

So the King went to his eldest son and asked him to become the next King. But the
oldest Prince was so humble that he told his father that the youngest Prince had
better qualities of a leader. And when the King asked the youngest Prince, he
lovingly recommended the second-born Prince. The King was touched by the love
and humility of his children. But he was still worried by the question of finding the
most suitable King. So he came up with a plan. He gave each of his sons a room and
asked them to fill it with something that would help the kingdom.

After six months he visited the first son. He was curious to know what his eldest son
had used the room for. When he opened the room he found that his son had filled
up the whole room with grains. The eldest prince explained, Sometimes we have
droughts in our kingdom. This would help our people in times of such starvation.
The king was pleased with his son and went ahead to meet the second son.

When he opened the second room, the King found the entire room filled with
cotton. The second Prince explained, Cotton can be compressed and so one is able
to store a lot more of it. During winters our people suffer a lot. This cotton would
provide them with adequate blankets and this way our people will be able to sleep
well, have beautiful dreams and a vision for a better tomorrow. The King was very
pleased with his explanation.

Now the King went to the third Prince. He entered the room, and was surprised to
see the entire room empty except for a small candle burning in the center of the
room. The King was confused and looked up at his son. The son lovingly sat by his
fathers feet and explained, Father, I will work hard towards making my life like this
candle. And just as the light of this candle is lluminating every corner of this room, I
will immerse the entire kingdom in the light of wisdom, love and goodness.

The King felt that he learnt the most important lesson of his life through his
youngest son. He crowned him the next King with the blessings of his brothers and
the joy of the entire kingdom.

My mothers hands
My mother was visiting, she asked me to go shopping with her because she needed a
new dress. I dont normally like to go shopping and Im not a patient person, but we
set off for the mall together. We visited nearly every store that carried ladies dresses,
and my mother tried on dress after dress, rejecting them all. As the day wore on, I
grew weary.

Finally, at our last stop, my mother tried on a lovely blue three-piece dress. The
blouse had a bow at the neckline, and as I stood in the dressing room with her, I
watched as she tried, with much difficulty, to tie the bow. Her hands were so badly
crippled from arthritis that she couldnt do it. Immediately, my impatience gave way
to an overwhelming wave of compassion for her. I turned away to try and hide the
tears that welled up involuntarily. Regaining my composure, I turned back to tie the
bow for her.

Our shopping trip was over, but the event was etched indelibly in my memory. For the
rest of the day, my mind kept returning to that moment in the dressing room and to
the vision of my mothers hands trying to tie that bow. Those loving hands that had
fed me, bathed me, dressed me, caressed and comforted me, and, most of all, prayed
for me, were now touching me in the most remarkable manner.

Later in the evening, I went to my mothers room, took her hands in mine, kissed
them and, much to her surprise, told her that to me they were the most beautiful
hands in the world.

I can only pray that some day my hands, and my heart, will have earned such a beauty
of their own.

Hadith of the day

The cookie thief
A woman was waiting at the airport one night,
With several long hours before her flight.
She hunted for a book in the airport shop,
Bought a bag of cookies and found a place to drop.

She was engrossed in her book, but happened to see,

That the man beside her, as bold as could be,
Grabbed a cookie or two from the bag between,
Which she tried to ignore to avoid a scene

She read, munched cookies, and watched the clock,

As the gustly cookie thief diminished her stock
She was getting more irritated as the minutes ticked by,
Thinking, If I wasnt so nice, Id blacken his eye!

With each cookie she took, he took one too.

When only one was left, she wondered what hed do.
with a smile on his face and a nervous laugh,
He took the last cookie and broke it in half.

He offered her half, and he ate the other.

She snatched it from him and thought, Oh brother,
This guy has some nerve, and hes also so rude,
Why, he didnt even show any gratitude!

She had never known when she had been so galled,

And sighed with relief when her flight was called.
She gathered her belongings and headed for the gate,
Refusing to look at the thieving ingrate.

She boarded the plane and sank in her seat,

Then sought her book, which was almost complete.
As she reached in her baggage, she gasped with surprise.
There were her bag of cookies in front of her eyes!

If mine are here, she moaned with despair.

Then the others were his and he tried to share!
Too late to apologize, she realized with grief,
That she was the rude one, the ingrate, the thief!!!!

A robbers advice
That is why the experience of Imam Ghazali (r.a.) is a valuable lesson. Ayuhatullab!
Listen carefully!

Having completed his studies, Imam Ghazali (r.a.) was en route back home. On the
way the caravan in which he was travelling was waylaid by robbers. Together with his
co-travellers, Imam Ghazali (r.a.) was dispossessed of all his goods. Amongst his
possessions were the carefully written notes of the lectures delivered by his ustads.

These notes were also taken by the robbers. Imam Ghazali (r.a.) sought out the leader
of the band of robbers and pleaded with him: "Your men have taken all my
possessions except for the clothes I wear. You may keep the extra clothes and other
valuables - I do not lament their loss. However, please ask your men to return the
papers they have taken."

The leader of the band of robbers was amazed at this unusual request. This young
man was not worried about clothes and valuables, but he was asking for some pieces
of paper to be returned!

Very curious, he asked: "What papers are these?"

Imam Ghazali (r.a.) explained: "I am a student returning home after completing my
studies. When my teachers used to lecture, I used to make notes. These are those
very pages of 'ilm that I am requesting to be returned to me."

The leader of the robbers said, "What you have just said fills me with great sorrow
and regret. Young lad! Is your 'ilm on pieces of paper when it should have been in
your heart? Papers can get lost. Papers can be destroyed by fire, become parched by
the sun, get eaten by moths, become damaged with damp, etc., etc. You are
dependent on papers? It fills me with great pity. Your 'ilm should be in your heart! Be
that as it may, your papers will be returned."

He summoned one of his men and ordered him, "Give back to this boy his papers."
The notes were retrieved and returned to Imam Ghazali (r.a.).

Imam Ghazali (r.a.) was of noble character. He was, moreover, a dedicated student.
The words of the gang-leader were like a knife piercing his heart. On reaching home,
he lost no time in memorising all his notes!

Intentions

A person once got angry when he saw people worshipping a tree. He grabbed hold of
an axe and intended to cut it down. On the way, he met Shaytaan. He told Shaytaan
that he intended to cut the tree down. The Shaytaan told him to leave it and let the
tree worshippers face the consequences. Due to this disagreement, the pair wrestled
twice. Shaytaan being beaten each time.

As Shaytaan soon realized this person is strong in his belief, he began to change his
approach by saying that if you leave this tree, you will find 4 dirhams under your
pillow. The person hesitated for a while and thereafter agreed.

The person returned home and found 4 dirhams daily under his pillow every morning.
Once, for two consecutive days, he never found the dirhams that were meant to be
under his pillow. He proceeded again to the tree in a fit of anger. On the way, he met
Shaytaan. Shaytaan asked, Where are you going? He replied, To cut the tree
down.

Iblees (Shaytaan) then told him to return back as he was not going to allow him to
proceed. Iblees said, On the first occasion, you wanted to cut down the tree for
Allah, I couldnt have stopped you but this time you are going due to the 4 dirhams i.e
for yourself, I will stop you.

The moral to this story is that the actions which are done for Allah are difficult for
Shaytaan to obstruct. When actions are done for yourself i.e. worldly things, then
Shaytaan can win easily.

The Prophet (PBUH) said:

..Actions are according to intentions

May Allah grant us the ability to maintain good intentions. Ameen

Story time
"But, Mum, I do not want to eat. I am a big boy and I can fast," Thabit told his mother.
"But you are fasting, Thabit. 7-year-old children eat in the morning and a little in the
afternoon and then they don't eat anything else till evening."
"But you do not fast like that, Mum," the little boy insisted.
"I am older, Thabit. Grownups fast that way."
The young gentleman sat deep in thought and then asked, "Mum, why do we fast?"
"That's a good question, Thabit."

She got up and went to the kitchen cupboard. She removed something from it.
"Do you know what this is, Thabit?"
"It's a blender."
"Do you know what it is supposed to do?"
"It blends passion fruit for juice." His mother laughed. "Yes, it does blend. Our body does the
same thing. It grinds the food we eat; it takes what it needs and removes the rest. It does this
everyday, day in day out."
"Doesn't the body get tired, Mum?"
"It does. Just like the blender. When we have blended juice for too long, it refuses to work.
Then it needs fixing. So we have to give our body a rest so it can work better for us. That's
why we fast in Ramadan and some other days in the year."

"Does everybody fast, Mummy?"

"Not everybody. If you are ill or expecting a baby or if you are old and weak like Daddy's
grandpa or if you are 7 years old then you don't fast.
The little boy thought some more. He ate the food his mother had set before him without
much fuss. "What if you don't want to fast?
"What is your sister Nur's favorite color?" "Pink".
"And what is the color of her uniform for Madrassa (School)?" "Blue".

But she says she'd like to wear her pink hijab when she goes."
"And why doesn't she?"
"She is afraid Ustaadh (Teacher) will punish her."
"You see, she was afraid Ustaadh would punish her. Ustaadh will punish her because she has
broken the rule of the madrassa by wearing pink.
You see, Thabit, Allah knows what is good for us and so we have to do as He commands,
because He sees and knows everything. We love Him and fear Him and we don't want Him to
be displeased with us."
"But don't you get hungry, Mum?"

"Of course we do. But we keep ourselves busy on other important things to take our mind
away from the food. We read the Qur'an, or we visit the sick people or we go to the mosque
and listen to dars. You see there's plenty to do and before you know it, it's time to eat!"
"Is there another reason why Muslims fast?"
"Yes. You are lucky, Thabit, because you have food everyday. Not everyone has food to eat."
"Like the poor people at Baroda Road?"
"Yes, like them. If we go hungry like them, we will be able to understand that they need
help."

The little boy seemed satisfied with the answers, his mother had given him. "Mum, can I go
with you and Daddy to help the poor?" "By the Grace of Allah, you can."

Forget and forgive

Malik al-Ashtar was a great soldier and general. He is very well remembered in the
history of Islam. He later became the Governor of Egypt. Malik al-Ashtar served under
the great caliph and Imam Ali.

Once at the time when he was commander-in-chief in Kufa, Iraq, he was walking on
foot in the streets. His head was shaven. As he was passing on the way a man seeing
his shaven head slapped him on head as a joke to make people laugh. He did not
know that it was the Commander-in-chief whom he had slapped. The Commander did
not even raise his eyes to see who the offender was. He continued to walk as nothing
had happened.

People in the street and the shops saw this. They at first were surprised and expected
him to get angry. But soon they began to talk of the great general's humbleness.
The loafer came to know of the identity of his victim. He was greatly shaken with fear.
He thought the Commander-in-Chief would punish him for the insult.

He immediately went running after Malik al-Ashtar to beg his forgiveness. He went
first to Malik al-Ashtar's house but could not find him. After some search he found
him sitting in Masjid al-Kufa (the Kufa Mosque) praying. He waited patiently until the
General finished his prayers. Then politely he approached the General, bowed his
head and humbly begged for the forgiveness.

Malik al-Ashtar lifted the man and said, But, my sole purpose to come here was to
pray to Allah to forgive you.

There is a lesson to be learnt in this example. Let us keep away from pride and
enmity. Let us forget and forgive the wrong done to us. Malik was a follower of Ali.

Ali (RA) said:

Hurry not to punish a man for fault committed.
Leave room for pardon between the two acts.
The best deeds of a great man are to forgive and forget.

Lailatul Qadr: The night of power

Al-Qadr (Power, Fate)

In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful.

We have indeed revealed this (Message) in the Night of Power:

And what will explain to thee what the night of power is?
The Night of Power is better than a thousand months.
Therein come down the angels and the Spirit by Allahs permission, on every errand:
Peace! This until the rise of morn!

Allah has given us many opportunities to gain good deeds and rewards. Laylatul Qadr
or the Night of Power is one such night that Allah has made for us to pray and
supplicate and ask Him for whatever we wish for, especially forgiveness for our
mistakes.

This blessed night, which Allah describes in the Quran as the night of Al-Qadr is
better than a thousand months, comes in Ramadan, which itself is the most blessed
month of all. Allah says that on this night Angels descend to Earth from heaven and
they bring Allahs mercy and uncountable blessings with them for those people who
pray, fast, remember Allah and ask for his forgiveness.

The Quran also states that on this night all the evil beings, like Shaytan, cannot
spread their evil. All throughout the night Allah sends His peace and blessings for all
the faithful men and women, both young and old, until the dawn of the new day.

No one knows exactly when (which date) the night of Al-Qadr falls. But scholars, on
the basis of many hadiths, say that Prophet Mohammad (PBUH) used to intensify his
prayers and supplications in the last ten days of Ramadan.

Narrated Aisha: Allahs Apostle said, Search for the Night of Qadr in the odd nights
of the last ten days of Ramadan. (Sahih Bukhari, Volume 3, Book 32, Number 234)

The month of Ramadan itself is a great month. Allah revealed our Holy Book, the
Quran, in this month. Allah has made reaping rewards even easier in this month by
chaining the devils and closing the gates of Hell and opening the gates of Heaven.

We should all try to do extra good deeds in Ramadan, like giving in charity, being nice
to those around us, praying a little extra and helping others because this whole month
is for us to gain Allahs pleasure.

Narrated Abu Huraira: The Prophet said, Whoever established prayers on the night
of Qadr out of sincere faith and hoping for a reward from Allah, then all his previous
sins will be forgiven; and whoever fasts in the month of Ramadan out of sincere faith,
and hoping for a reward from Allah, then all his previous sins will be forgiven. (Sahih
Bukhari, Volume 3, Book 31, Number 125)

Try and try again

Timur! Amir Timur was a great Mongolian King. He was one of the bravest and greatest
warriors. He had conquered nearly half of the world known at that time. His courage
was great. He learnt from an ant not to loose courage. He tells his own story.

Once he was fighting a battle. He was defeated. He had to run away to the mountains
to save his life. He hid himself in a safe place. Tired and hungry he sat at one place
quietly watching little things around him. He noticed an ant working. The ant was
carrying a grain of rice much bigger than itself. With this load the ant tried to climb up a
wall. The grain fell down. The ant came down and lifted the grain once again. It started
to climb the wall. Again the grain fell down and again it went down to try. The ant did
not loose courage. It tried again and again.

The King tells us that the ant tried thirty three times until it succeeded in taking the
grain up the wall. The King learnt a lesson. Man looses courage. He was weak. He must
grow strong.

So heartened, he went about collecting his run-away soldiers and officers. He rebuilt his
army. He fought yet another battle. He won. Thereafter, one success after another
came to him. He had learnt not to loose courage. He continued to battle until he
became a great King.

Constant effort is the key to success. Ants know their lesson. Men have to learn. Never
loose courage. Islam teaches true values of life. It teaches human beings not to despair.
Each one must try harder and achieve greater results in life.

The Qur'an teaches:

And that there is nothing for man except what he tried,
His efforts shall be seen. And rewarded to fullest extent.

The little doctor

A Little girl
With godly curl Pains are bad
To her mummy said she And sufferings sad
Doctor I want to be To the old I will care
Mother's suffering I will share
Let me see
If doctor I want to be To the sick
What must I have I will be meek
Thought the little brave Unhappiness I shall cure
Doctor I will be for sure
A long white coat
And a thing with knot In my little heart
On a dangling rope There is this restless fire
They call a stethoscope You may call it my desire
That doctor be I must
For action
I must have injection That in God I trust
A syringe with a needle That to serve God
In the middle And to please my Lord
I must serve mankind
A thermometer to measure
Patient's temperature Without looking behind
Some spirit cool Mother dear that day
And some cotton-wool Will be my happy day
WHEN DOCTOR I WILL BE
Syrups, ointments and tabs
Scissors, bandages and caps To cure for the pleasure of God
In my bag all there To serve mankind for my Lord
Ready to serve without fees
Source: unknown
To all I must be good
Their pains I must soothe
I do not care for fee
To poor I will serve free

Hadith of the day

Khadijah
Khadijah woke up in the middle of the night. She could hear someone reading Quran
in the living room. Slowly she walked in the dark. Khadijah picked up her cat, Sandy ,
and opened the living room door.

Mummy was sitting on the prayer mat reading the Quran. Khadijahs older sister
Wahida was also besides her mummy praying.
Mummy what are you doing? she asked
Dont you know what night it is? Wahida asked her. Khadijah shook her head.
Wahida told her to come and sit on the floor.

Here have some milk and dates said Wahida giving them to Khadijah.
Tonight started Mummy Is Laylatul Qadr Khadijah didnt understand Arabic.
It means night of power said Mummy Allah has said that the night is better than a
thousand months
Wow! said Khadijah drinking the milk
It is on the Surah called Surah Al Qadr said Wahida
Oh said Khadijah I memorised that Surah at Maktab

Mashallah said Mummy and Wahida together

Tell me more please said Khadijah
Well Khadijah said Mummy The Prophet Muhammad (s) said that we should look
for the night of power on the 21st, 23rd, 25th, 27th and 29th of Ramadan.

And tonight is one of the night said Wahida

So we should try and pray on all the nights said Mummy And in a Hadith it was said
that whoever stands (in prayer) with Iman with hope of reward all his previous sins
are forgiven
Khadijahs mouth was wide open. This sounded wonderful.

Than why did Daddy go to the Mosque to stay? Khadijah asked

He is doing something called Itikaf said Mummy This is when men and sometimes
women go to the Mosque and stay for ten nights performing prayers, zikr, reading
Quran and other things. He will come back when the moon is sighted for Eid

Khadijah made a dua Oh Allah we thank you for this beautiful month, Amin

Hadith of the day

The pious man
There was a pious man among the Banu Israel who always remained busy in the
worship of Allah. A group of people came to him and told him that a tribe living
nearby worshipped a tree. The news upset him, and with an axe on his shoulder he
went to cut down that tree. On the way, Satan met him in the form of an old man
and asked him where he was going. He said he was going to cut a particular tree.
Satan said, You have nothing to be concerned with this tree, you better mind your
worship and do not give it up for the sake of something that does not concern you.
This is also worship, retorted the worshipper.

Then Satan tried to prevent him from cutting the tree, and there followed a fight
between the two, in which the worshipper overpowered the Satan. Finding himself
completely helpless, Satan begged to be excused, and when the worshipper
released him, he again said, Allah has not made the cutting of this tree obligatory
on you. You do not lose anything if you do not cut it. If its cutting were necessary,
Allah could have got it done through one of his many Prophets. The worshipper
insisted on cutting the tree.

There was again a fight between the two and again the worshipper overpowered
the Satan. Well listen, said Satan, I propose a settlement that will be to your
advantage. The worshipper agreed, and Satan said, You are a poor man, a mere
burden on this earth. If you stay away from this act, I will pay you three gold coins
everyday. You will daily find them lying under your pillow.

By this money you can fulfil your own needs, can oblige your relative, help the
needy, and do so many other virtuous things. Cutting the tree will be only one
virtue, which will ultimately be of no use because the people will grow another
tree. This proposal appealed to the worshipper, and he accepted it. He found the
money on two successive days, but on the third day there was nothing. He got
enraged, picked up his axe and went to cut the tree. Satan as an old man again met
him on the way and asked him where he was going. To cut the tree, shouted the
worshipper. I will not let you do it, said Satan.

A fight took place between the two again but this time Satan had the upper hand
and overpowered the worshipper. The latter was surprised at his own defeat, and
asked the former the cause of his success. Satan replied, At first, your anger was
purely for earning the pleasure of Allah, and therefore Almighty Allah helped you to
overpower me, but now it has been partly for the sake of the gold coins and
therefore you lost.

Hadith of the day

The starfish

Once upon a time there was a wise man who used to go to the ocean to do his
journal writing. He had a habit of walking on the beach before he began his work.
One day he was walking along the shore. As he looked down the beach, he saw a
human figure moving like a dancer. He smiled to himself to think of someone who
would dance to the day. So he began to walk faster to catch up.

As he got closer, he saw that it was a young man and the young man wasnt
dancing, but instead he was reaching down to the shore, picking up something
and very gently throwing it into the ocean.

As he got closer he called out, Good morning! What are you doing?
The young man paused, looked up and replied, Throwing starfish in the ocean.
I guess I should have asked, why are you throwing starfish in the ocean?
The sun is up, and the tide is going out. And if I dont throw them in theyll die.
But, young man, dont you realize that there are miles and miles of beach, and
starfish all along it. You cant possibly make a difference!

The young man listened politely. Then bent down, picked up another starfish and
threw it into the sea, past the breaking waves and said, It made a difference for
that one.

There is something very special in each and every one of us. We have all been
gifted with the ability to make a difference. And if we can become aware of that
gift, we gain through the strength of our visions the power to shape the future. We
must each find our starfish. And if we throw our stars wisely and well, the world
will be blessed.

Sponsor-A-Child Project
Poverty is both the cause and the effect of insufficient access to education.

Lack of proper education guarantees that a child born into poverty will remain in
poverty. We try to help break this cycle of poverty one family at a time. Our unique
approach is to work with the families to ensure they are getting counselling and
financial guidance to keep all of their children in school. This approach delivers
better results because

A. Education becomes the top priority for the family resulting in a more focused
and less distracted child
B. Neighbors and other families around them also realize the importance of
education by noticing a gradual change in this family

Nine years since the launch of this project, we are proud of what these families
have been able to accomplish. In order to ensure a predictable and high quality
service to these families, we seek community funding only during the four weeks of
Ramadan. This way we can approve only those sponsorships that we can afford and
then remain focused on helping them achieve educational goals.

We are looking for 300 student sponsorships for the school year 2017-18. May we
request you to please consider entrusting us with your donations.
