1. We have discussed in detail regarding rotor flux linkage oriented vector control of induction motor. It is
also possible to implement vector control with stator flux linkage orientation. Represent torque, stator flux
linkage and angular slip speed in terms of given variables and machine parameters in the following format.

a. Te f (eds , iqs

qs sl

c. sl h(eds , iqs

2. Consider Figure 1 below of surface type trapezoidal permanent magnet motor (Brushless DC motor). Let
the rotor position angle be 150 degrees from phase-a stator winding axis (=1500). The rotor is to rotate
counter clockwise direction considering current to the motor positive and current out of the motor to be
negative (The three phases Current as indicated in the figure are all positive).
Rs=0.27 Ohm, motor speed 1000 rpm, DC supply voltage 110 V, voltage constant 1.0 V/rad/sec.

e. Determine the no-load speed of the machine
f. Determine the braking torque if the supply voltage is reduced to 50V suddenly while the motor was

3. Torque equation for an interior permanent magnet synchronous motor is given by equation below.

Where Ld and Lq are d-axis and q-axis inductance, id and iq are d-axis and q-axis currents, m is flux
linkage due to permanent magnet.
a. Such motors are sometimes controlled for maximum torque per unit stator current. Formulate
mathematical expression for the maximum torque per stator current.
b. It is also possible to control with d-axis stator current zero in which the stator q-axis current is
proportional to torque. Draw possible block diagram for speed and current vector control of the
machine with id=0 control.
c. Compare and contrast the two types of control, namely maximum torque per unit current and stator d-
axis current zero control.

d. Interior permanent magnets are also known for their wide speed range operation by implementing field
weakening. Discuss how field weakening can be implemented and demonstrate using simulation.

4. A salient synchronous motor has Ld = 15mH and Lq 10mH. The field flux constant is 1.5 volts/rad/sec. stator
winding resistance rs=0.5 Ohm. Terminal line voltage is 380V rms at 50Hz. Stator phase current is 10A.
