Mobile Application for Creating
Subject Writing

Activity Because fifth graders are learning about force,
motion, and energy in their science classes, I
thought it would be a good idea to connect that to
a research paper. I would want them to pick a
famous scientist that had major contributions to
either force, motion, or energy. Once they have
chosen the famous scientist to research and have
most of their information I would then instruct
them to use the app called SimpleMind+. This app
allows students to create a map in order to better
organize their thoughts. Inside the app, I would
instruct students to write their topic of choice in
the center bubble then have 4 bubbles that stem
out write: Introductory paragraph, body paragraph

#1, body paragraph #2, and conclusion. They are
then able to stem out any relevant information
that they researched and add it to the appropriate

5.8 The student will edit writing for correct
grammar, capitalization, spelling, punctuation,
sentence structure, and paragraphing.
Once the student has finished their research paper
organizer from the previous activity, they will then
start writing the paper on an app called Pages. This
app will allow a student to write essays, school
reports, letters, etc. Once the app is opened, there
is a premade template called Research Paper. All
the student has to do is fill in their name, date, and
title then begin typing their essay. Once finished,
the student can share the link to their document
through the iCloud or send a copy to a separate
email address. Once shared with another student,
he/she is able to delete, add, or comment on the
paper and also add their name so you know who
edited the paper. This will make it easy for the
student to ask any questions to the student who
edited their paper for any further explanation. It
also allows for the teacher to comment and edit

paragraph. This simple app will help the students any writing errors as well.
better organize their thoughts in order to write a
well cohesive research paper. When they are
finished, I can simply look up the organizer that
they saved to the iPad in order to grade it
accordingly.
