Question 1

Using Matrix Solve the equations :

2x − y + 2z = 6
x − 2y + 3z = 6
3x − 3y − z = −6

Converting them to matrix form we get

    
2 −1 2 x 6
1 −2 3  y  =  6 
3 −3 −1 z −6

which is of the form :

⇒A·X =B
     
2 −1 2 x 6
where, A = 1 −2 3 , X = y  and B =  6 
3 −3 −1 z −6

⇒ X = A−1 · B
1
We know that A−1 = · adj(A)
|A|

2
−1 2
Now,|A| = 1 −2 3 = 2(2 + 9) − (−1)(−1 − 9) + 2(−3 + 6) = 18
3 −3 −1

and Matrix formed from Co-factors of A :

 
(2 + 9) −1(−1 − 9) (−3 + 6)
−1(1 + 6) (−2 − 6) −1(−6 + 3)
(−3 + 4) −1(6 − 2) (−4 + 1)
 
11 10 3
⇒ −7 −8 3
1 −4 −3

Hence, adj(A) will be the tranform of above matrix

 
11 −7 1
⇒ adj(A) = 10 −8 4
3 3 −3

1
Now, X = · adj(A) · B
|A|
   
11 −7 1 6
1 
So, X = · 10 −8 4 · 6 
18
3 3 −3 −6
   
11 −7 1 1
1 
⇒ X = · 10 −8 4 · 1 

3 3 −3 −1
 
(11 − 7 − 1)
1 
⇒ X = · (10 − 8 + 4)
3
(3 + 3 + 3)
 

1  
⇒X= · 6

   
x 1
⇒ y  = 2
z 3

⇒ x = 1, y = 2, z = 3.

Question 2

A drawer contains 50 bolts and 150 nuts, half of the bolts and half of the nuts are
rusted. If one item is chosen at random what is the probability that is rusted
or a bolt.

Answer :

Required Probabilty =

Probabbilty of choosing a bolt + Probability of choosing a rusted item - Prob-

abilty of choosing a rusted bolt

Question 3

What is a TIME SERIES ? Mention its important components. How a time

series can be analysed.

This is a theoritical question and answer can be found at

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/T ime series

Question 4 and Question 5

In a random sample to 200 persons of a town, 120 are found to be tea drinkers.
In a random sample of 500 persons of another town, 240 are found to be tea
drinkers.
Is the propotion of tea drinkers in the town equal? Use 0.01 level of significance.

Find the area under the standard normal curve whuch lies
(a) to the left of z = 0.94
(b) to the right of z = 0.65
(c) to the right of z = 1.76
(d) in between z = 0.34 and z = 0.62

Both these question are of statistics which has never been my subject. So, I
can’t guide you on these question. It would be better if you ask these question
to someone who is doing B.Sc from Statistic.

As far as CAT or any other management exams are concerned let me tell you one
thing, out of five questions you have asked only Question 2 could have come in
CAT. The reason being very simple only question 2 requires less than a minute
to solve rest all are very big question which cannot appear in CAT(where time
per question with you is slightly more than a minute). If you are seriuosly
preparing for CAT then , I have around 7 years old CAT papers in electronic
for, which could be a great boost for your prepration. Just mail me if you want
them.Bye
