Limnodynastes dorsalis

Banjo Frogs are found throughout

the south-west corner of Western
Australia. Their scientific name is
Limnodynastes dorsalis and they
are also known as Pobblebonks.

Banjo Frogs have smooth skin

which is grey or dark green with
large dark brown blotches. They
also have a yellow stripe running
from their nose to their bottom.

Banjo Frogs are found near

permanent and temporary water
including dams, swamps and
wetlands. However, they are skillful
at burrowing and spend much of the
year buried in sandy soils.

The Banjo Frog gets its name from

the males call, which is a series
of plonks that sound like a banjo
being plucked. When a group of
males call together it sounds like
the word pobblebonk.
