ProQuest Dissertations Weigel, Richard A. 2013 This article talks about the investigation of the connection between what is understood about skills for school leadership today and the need for a much bigger understanding of those skills. Weigel argues that expanding leadership skills to enhance school performance and effectiveness is great and most leaders enter their roles without a comprehension of the skills needed to be effective. Successful school leaders must have the proper skills to realize what to do, when to do it, and how to move forward, as well as the ability to solve the complex social issues that they will come across. He explains how the leadership capability required to solve the problems of educational organizations are disorganized and vague and not well characterized at this time, and there is a need for more effectively defining school leadership skills and designing processes to give school leaders practice to enhance performance. The article overall expresses how there needs to be a more effectual model for educational upgrading based on leadership skill development that will yield a different type of performance in schools.
