Over $70 Million Will Be Destined by HHS to Combat

Opioid Crisis
An outstanding number of above 33,000 opioid deceased victims during 2015, made HHS
representatives turn their heads towards this issue.

Health and Human Services Secretary Tom Price, M.D., stated that more than $70 million will
be destined to aid opioid crisis in terms of prevention from overdose deaths and opioid addiction
treatment. This will be granted to support people who need to overcome opioid addiction. The
money will be destined to eligible community organizations and healthcare providers throughout
the nation in the years to come as requested.

More specifically, Medication-assisted treatment (MAT) will be supported with $28 million and
the rest will be destined to other campaigns. Putting an end to the opioid crisis ravaging our
country is a top priority for President Trump and all of us at the Department of Health and
Human Services, said HHS Secretary Tom Price. We are committed to bringing everything the
federal government has to bear on this health crisis. Building partnerships and providing
resources to state and local governments as well as non-government organizations are absolutely
critical to this effort. The purpose of these grants is to empower the heroes in this fightthe men
and women on the forefront of supporting prevention, treatment, and recovery initiatives in their
communities.

Facing an alarming number of fatal victims above 33,000 just during 2015, HHS already
authorized funds to be released for preventing actions, addiction treatment, education to spot
signs of overdose, and prompt attention to prevent victims deaths. The money from funds will
be available together with funds from other organizations through three grants, two of them
authorized by the Comprehensive Addiction and Recovery Act (CARA) to specifically train
healthcare providers to refer patients to adequate detox treatment and also to make possible for a
larger number of victims to promptly get the necessary medication for overdose reversal. The
third grant funding opportunity will be reserved for medication-assisted treatment of opioid use
disorders.

Concerned about statistics, (Utah ranks 7th in opioids abuse) and concerned about the well-being
of every individual in Salt Lake City, Stop the Opidemic campaign aims to be part of this
movement by informing, preventing, and potentially saving the lives of young Uthans which
could easily get involved in the use and abuse of opioids. We believe that someone well-
informed and supported by community can either be prevented from opioid usage or can escape
from the trap this addiction represents.

Also, an invitation to health care giving institutions is extended to apply for funds to combat this
epidemic.

HOW TO APPLY:
