World Day Against July 30

The United Nations World Day against Trafficking in Persons is observed on 30 July 2017 around the
world.

The day aims at raising awareness of the plight of human trafficking victims, and promoting and
protecting their rights.

The theme of United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) is Act to Protect and Assist
Trafficked Persons.

2. Ministry of Health releases Guidelines for FPC

Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has released Operational Guidelines for Planning and
Implementation of Family Participatory Care (FPC).

The guidelines will serve as a guiding document for those intending to introduce FPC in their facility as
an integral part of facility based newborn care.

The document also provides details of infrastructure, training, role of health care providers and steps
in the operationalization of FPC in the newborn care unit.

3. India among top nations with potential for digital payments: Digital Evolution Index

India has featured among 60 nations on Digital Evolution Index 2017, exhibiting a high potential in terms
of digital payments.

On the Digital Evolution Index 2017, India has been categorised under the break out segment which
refers to countries that have relatively lower absolute levels of digital advancement, yet remain poised
for growth and are attractive to investors by virtue of their potential.
 The report outlined that India has been experiencing rapid strides of progress with an evolving
payments landscape, catalysed by the governments demonetisation decision.

4. Canara Bank launches CANDI in Bengaluru

Public sector lender Canara Bank has launched its first Digital Banking Branch in Bengaluru.

The branch is reportedly titled CANDI and it will aim to provide an end-to-end digital experience to
customers.

The most attractive feature of the Digital Branch is a humanoid robot that addresses basic queries of
customers on banking products and services.

This is a first-of-its kind initiative by a public sector bank in the country.

5. Ravi Mittal appointed part-time member on IRDAI board

Ravi Mittal, who has joined as additional secretary in the Finance Ministry in place of Anil Khachi, is now
a part-time member on the board of IRDAI by replacing N S Rao.

Former finance secretary Sushma Nath is another part-time member on the IRDAI board.

Maruthi Prasad Tangirala, has been appointed as ED at IRDAI and his position will be equivalent to a
joint secretary.

Mamta Suri, who has been working as chief general manager (CGM) at IRDAI has now been promoted
as executive director .

6. Caeleb Dressel: - first ever Swimmer to win three gold medals in one night at worlds Championship
The 20-year-old American Swimmer Caeleb Dressel has become the first swimmer to win three gold
medals on a single night at either the FINA World Swimming Championship or the Olympics.

FINA World Aquatics Championships was held in Budapest, Hungary.

Dressel started with a victory in the 50-meter freestyle, came back about a half-hour later to nearly
break Michael Phelps world record in the 100 butterfly, and closed the night by leading off a world-
record performance in the mixed 400 freestyle relay.

He now has six gold medals in the championships, putting him in position to tie Phelps record of
seven at the 2007 Champonships in Melbourne, Australia.

7. Shiva, Manoj strike gold at Czech boxing tournament

Indian boxers packed quite a heavy punch at the 48th Grand Prix Usti Nad Labem, clinching five gold,
two silver and one bronze medal at the event in the Czech Republic.

Shiva Thapa (60kg), Manoj Kumar (69kg), Amit Phangal (52kg), Gaurav Bidhuri (56kg) and Satish
Kumar (+91kg) claimed gold medals.

Kavinder Bisht (52kg) and Manish Panwar (81kg), on the other hand, settled for silver medals. Sumit
Sangwan (91kg) had claimed a bronze after going down in the semi-finals.

8. Ramon Magsaysay award winners

The six winners of this years Ramon Magsaysay Awards, regarded as Asias version of the Nobel Prize

Yoshiaki Ishizawa (Japan):- Efforts to restore Cambodias cultural monuments such as Angkor Wat

Gethsie Shanmugam (Sri Lanka):- worked on rebuilding war-scarred lives, especially women and
children
 Abdon Nababan (Indonesia):- Advocacy on behalf of the Adapt or indigenous communities of his
country;

Tony Tay (Singapore):- A volunteer movement he founded to address hidden hunger.

Ms. Lilia de Lima (Philippines):- Decades-long work with the Philippine Economic Zone Authority.

Philippine Educational Theatre Association (Philippines):- Its bold, collective contributions in shaping
the theater arts as a force for social change, its impassioned, unwavering work in empowering
communities in the Philippines,

9. Book named Mann Ki Baat A Social Revolution on Radio Launched

The Governor of Maharashtra Ch Vidyasagar Rao and Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis launched the
book "Mann Ki Baat A Social Revolution on Radio" at the Raj Bhavan. The book is authored by Rajesh
Jain.

The book includes transcripts of the first 23 episodes of Prime Minister Narendra Modis monthly
address on radio Mann Ki Baat. It illustrates how Mann Ki Baat has connected with the New India
the youth in particular.
