TERMS AND DEFINITIONS

1. ACCOUNTABLE MANAGER:
A person who has the combined authority to ensure that all the maintenance work
commissioned by the customer can be financed and carried out in accordance with the standard
defined by regulatory body.

2. AIRCRAFT:
Any machine that can derive support in the atmosphere from the reaction of the air other than
reaction of the air against earth surface. (An Airplane, Helicopter, or an Airship)

3. AIRCRAFT COMPONENT:
An assembly / item / component / part of an aircraft, up to and including a complete power
plant and / or any operational/ emergency equipment. The components are further subdivided
into Rotables and consumables.

4. DE-ICING:
A procedure by which frost, ice and snow is removed for an aircraft in order to provide clean
surfaces. This may be accomplished by mechanical methods (booms or rope), pneumatic
methods or by the use of heated fluids.

5. AIRWORTHINESS:
An aircraft or aircraft component is airworthy only if it corresponds to the applicable type design
i.e. it conforms to the valid type certificate data sheet, and maintenance was carried out in
accordance with applicable maintenance regulations and release to service has been certified by
authorized personnel.

6. AIRWORTHNESS STANDARDS:
Airworthiness standards are regulations issued or approved in accordance with the order for
construction of aviation equipment that have been declared applicable by an aviation authority.

7. ASSOCIATED CONTROLS:
System that are inter linked with the main flight / engine controls system and can adversely
affect the correct operation of the main system, if improperly rigged or connected.

8. AUTHORIZATION:
Means authorization issued to certifying staff by the Quality assurance manager of approved
organization and which specifies the fact that they may sign approved certificates to release to
service with in the limitation stated in the authorization.

9. CERTIFICAT4E OF RELEASE TO SERVICE:


The certificate of release to service conforms, unless otherwise specified, that the approved
maintenance/production organization has performed actions in conformance with the
stipulation of the quality manual and that the aircraft / aircraft component has been released to
service with respect to the work carried out.
10. CERTIFYING STAFF:
Personnel who are authorized by the approved maintenance organization in accordance with a
procedure accepted by CAAN to certify the aircraft or aircraft components for release to
service after maintenance / manufacturing.

11. APPROVED STANDARD:


A manufacturing / Design / Maintenance / Quality standard approved by CAAN or an Authority
acceptable to CAAN or in accordance with a procedure approved by CAAN.

12. CONTINUATION TRAINING:


Continuation training in accordance with regulatory requirements to ensure that certifying staff
have up to date knowledge or relevant technologies, company policies, procedure and human
factors.

13. CONTRACTOR:
Means it is a CAAN / EASA / FAA approved organization.

14. CONSUMABLES:
Non maintainable aircraft components with their own Part No. Those are to be disposed off
after use e.g. (includes seal, o rings, filter and semi-finished products such as metal or plastic
sheets or profiles, etc., fluids such as cleaning agents, pickling agents, primers, paint, etc. for
surface treatment, adhesives, additional material for welding or plasma jet welding or other
material or additives such as lubricants or fuel that are used for maintenance or operation of
aircraft or components). They are distinguished for components are standard parts in that they
can never be used without processing. They are identified by a standard or other specification
(or by a part number in exceptional cases) in the maintenance or operational documents issued
for the respective aircraft by the aircraft design organization.

15. DESIGN ORGANIZATIONS:


An organization approved by aviation authority to design or modify products within the scope of
its approval.
