1 General description.
The VSP Amplified Batteryless Telephone System is designed for safe, loud and clear
communication and as a replacement of the traditional Sound Powered Telephones.
The traditional facilities are retained and an low power consumption amplifier with capacitor-
battery ensures an excellent communication.
By use of dynamic microphone- and receiver-inserts, 4 times louder speech and listening level
are obtained compared to the Sound Powered Telephones.
The VSP system is independent of the vessels power supply and fulfills the demands for
emergency communication between vital positions onboard.
The VSP system described in this manual is a system consisting of up to 12 main stations with
selector switch for selective calling between all connected stations.
The VSP system can also be connected to a 24V DC power supply and work as a
Common Battery Telephone System.

3. Function description
A. When activating the hand generator an AC voltage appears between P8 and P9.
Being rectified in D17 this will give DC power for two purposes:
1. The capasitor C7 will be charged and act as a battery power for the
transistorized amplifier.
The voltage across C7 is limited to max.39VDC by the zener diode Z1.
The voltage will slowly decrease from 39VDC down to less than 20V during a
time of 15 to 20 minutes.
In spite of the change in voltage level, full amplification will be obtained during
this time.
By replacing the strap P6 with an ampere-meter, the amplifier quiescent current
can be messured.
Delivered from Vingtor the quiescent current is set to:
Iq = 20 uA at U = 30V by adjustment of RV1.
The circuit voltage levels for 30V level across C7 are shown in the circuit diagram
The voltage reference (0V) are pos. 2 on the terminal strip.
b) For stations being used in hazardous area, VSP-553/556, no calling tone is supplied.
Call to a station in hazardous area will be indicated by use of Ex approved audible or
visible signal units.
When VSP-553 and VSP-556 being called, a relay K1 in the buffer unit will be
activated and neccessary power for the signal devices will be supplied.
B. The microphone capsules involved in the conversation will be connected to the
input transformer of the system amplifier, located in VSP-211-L.
The microphone capsule line is in all VSP units marked no.1 and 2 on the screw
terminals.
Microphone impedance 135 ohm f = 1 kHz
Respectively the earphone capsules involved in the conversation will load the
output transformer T2 of the system amplifier located in VSP-211-L.
The ear capsule line is marked no.3 and 4 on the screw terminals.
Earphone impedance: 135 ohm f = 1 kHz
C. Electrical specifications:
4. Installation instruction
Stations VSP-223-L, having built-in latch relay circuit for activating external audible and/or
visible signal units, makes an exception due to additional numbers from 17 to 22.

The VSP system can be runned as a common battery telephone system by connecting external
24VDC to the system amplifier.
Note. To avoid noise problems the 24VDC supply must be delivered via a DC/DC converter.
Corresponding input terminal numbers for external 24VDC supply located in VSP-211-L are:
no.23 is + (pos)
no.24 is - (neg)
Cabling
Recommended cable:
0.5 sq.mm revolved in pairs with an outer insolated screen, as RCOP
Number of wires needed:
4 (two twisted pairs, terminals 1&2 and 3&4)
+ one for each number of stations in the actual system
Wires for terminal numbers 1&2 and 3&4 must be revolved in pairs.
The screen must only be connected to terminal 2 in VSP-211-L.
This to avoid noise problems.
