I. Collect online fingering chart assignment. Due today for full credit.
II. Mouthpiece Warm-up
a. Buzz 2 octave descending chromatic scale
b. Buzz descending arpeggio pattern
c. Buzz ascending arpeggio pattern

III. General Info
a. Single Bb horns were used in the past for the high 1st & 3rd parts
b. Double horns were used for the lower 2nd & 4th parts
c. Now, double horns are used for all parts

IV. Crossover point between the two sides is G#, second line on the treble clef staff. Starting at the
G# begin using the thumb key.
a. No Thumb key: uses the F Horn side, or top set of slides
b. Using the Thumb key: uses the Bb side, or the lower set of slides
c. Fingering chart interpretation using 4th space E-natural as an example:

F Horn Side (NO THUMB)

Bb Side (USE THUMB)

Brief Discussion of Stopped Horn
a. Stopping the horn requires transposing the fingering down one half step.
b. Usually most effective from E above middle C to the top of the staff
c. Requires player use a louder volume.

VII. Review tuning with the right hand- Push in to go flat, pull out to go sharp. This is opposite of how the
tuning slides work.
