Access and Devices

Advocating for the need for Anytime Anywhere Access (A3) in

District 28
ESSENTIAL QUESTIONS
Does District 28 need to go A3 in order to the needs of our students?

How do we define A3? Classroom based or student based?

What is the best practice for us to ensure we are setting our students up for a
future of success?

What is the best way to pilot an A3 program (i.e. mixed devices and software
platforms)
WHERE WE BEGAN
Inquiry Questions

HOW ARE TEACHERS CURRENTLY USING TECH AS A LEARNING TOOL?

HOW MANY DEVICES DO WE HAVE?
WHAT KIND OF DEVICES ARE CURRENTLY BEING USED?
WHAT WOULD TEACHERS LOVE TO BE ABLE TO DO IF THEY HAD ACCESS TO ANY TYPE OF DEVICE?
WHICH DEVICES DO YOU THINK WOULD MEET THE NEEDS OF YOUR STUDENTS/CURRICULUM?
CONSUMPTION VS. CREATION?
HOW MUCH FLEXIBILITY CAN WE BUILD IN SO THAT WE AREN'T LIMITED BY MARRYING TO ONE TYPE OF
DEVICE OR PLATFORM?
Learning Team Meetings
Larry and Terry met with most learning teams to identify current use of
technology, barriers that hinder tech use, ideal classroom tech equipment, and
overall best device for each team.

Several trends emerged:

District 28 teachers are ready to implement learning with devices on a daily

basis.
The best device depends on the purpose of the task.
iPads or other mobile devices for creativity, audio and visual tasks, are
important.
Learning Team Meetings
Barriers to expanded implementation of technology include:

Tech support for devices and apps

Printing capabilities
Internet Filter limits research, eBooks and video viewing capabilities
Limited wifi bandwidth in some areas
Hypothesis
If District 28 students have access to multiple devices at all times (A 3) within an
innovative instructional environment (I3), then students will engage in innovative
and creative learning so they will be future ready.

A3 + I3 = FRC

Anytime, Anywhere Access + Innovative Instructional Implementation = Future Ready Citizens

Next Steps
Identify which devices that we want to pilot
Design a pilot roll out program
Coordinate with other subcommittees to develop guidelines for innovative
instructional implementation (I3) of technology
Develop timetable
Determine which team(s) or teacher(s) will pilot in each building
Determine how to collect the data and report on findings
Recommendations
Bands of grade levels (i.e. K-2, 3-5, 6-8) will select one device as their primary
device
Based on student and curricular needs, secondary devices should be
available, with flexibility of device sharing a possibility
