difficulties that you may encounter during the course of your studies. Trained advisers offer the
opportunity to discuss sensitive, emotional or psychological concerns in a confidential, neutral
and non-judgemental environment.

UEA Friends
The programme is for new international students to make friends and
connections right from the start of their journey at UEA and to have a
successful start. A current UEA student, or two, will be your Student
Support Rep, who will provide information, support, social opportunities
and a chance for you to quickly feel like you belong to the our UEA
community. Full details can be found on the webpages

UEA Accommodation
If you are currently living at INTO and are moving into UEA accommodation: this is an exciting
time as you have the opportunity to meet and live with new people.
The UEA Accommodation Office will help you make practical arrangements to move. It is a good
idea to be as prepared as possible, we recommend that you:
o Tidy your room and pack as much as possible into the boxes or crates provided
o Help each other move. If you know someone else that will be progressing to UEA and is
staying close to your new residence, help each other to move
o Log on to the Facebook group for your new UEA residence to get to know your new
flatmates in advance - https://www.facebook.com/UEAAccommodation
o Meet your Warden of your new accommodation.

It is likely that you will be living with other international and British students in your new
residence. To help you settle in and feel at home it is a good idea to introduce yourself to
everyone. Remember that they will be new to UEA and will want to make new friends too.
English Language Support

Good English language ability is important to achieving success in your course at UEA. To
help you continue to practise and improve, there are a number of projects that you can take
advantage of and which will help you to develop your academic and non-academic language
skills.

Language Support Buddy

Informal language support is available by requesting a Language Support Buddy for 6 weeks.
Your Buddy will be a fluent English speaker and will meet with you each week to practise
English, or help you to develop your skills.
International students have found the Language programme helpful in developing their language
skills and confidence.
To find out more or request a buddy visit the link https://portal.uea.ac.uk/student-support-
service/international-students/english-language/language-support-buddies

Conversation Club
All students progressing to UEA are invited to the weekly Conversation Club. The Club is run by
current UEA students, for students, to help develop conversational English skills and confidence.
Club Coordinators and volunteers create topics for discussion to help you practise English in a
friendly environment. Feel free to join their Facebook page at UEA Conversation Club.
The Club takes place every Tuesday evening from 7-9pm at the Multifaith Centre in the Square.
A warm welcome awaits you, https://portal.uea.ac.uk/student-support-service/international-
students/english-language/conversation-club

English Language Support Programme

The English Language Support Programme (ELSP) is designed to help develop the language
skills of non-native speakers necessary for successful academic study.
Further details are available online by searching ELSP on the UEA homepage or at the link
https://portal.uea.ac.uk/student-support-service/learning-enhancement/elsp

It is a great experience. It was very very useful for me. I advise all foreign students to
experience the language support buddy.
