To the buddha who is supreme in perfecting,
ripening, and purifying.

Practicing this liturgy according to the oral tradition of


Padmakara, the king of the victorious ones, will fully purify
one's negative karma and obscurations. The practice has
three parts: the foundation, the main part, and the conclusion.

As for the amount to recite, it would be best to say the mantra


until there are signs that your obscurations are gone, you feel
confident of that and the tathagatas have acknowledged it.
The medium amount would be one million times, and the
lesser amount would be one hundred thousand to four
hundred thousand times. In general, whatever amount you
say-such as one hundred, one thousand, or ten thousand
will bring the corresponding amount of connection and benefit.

This teaching from Padmakara, the second Buddha, is a
profound terma of the great terton Jangchub Gyaltsen. This
text was arranged by the first Jamgon Kongtrul, the master of
the Five Treasuries, and adapted by Shri (Khenchen Pa/den
Sherab). Through this, may all karma and obscurations by
purified. (What follows is an added verse of praise to
Akshobhya, which comes from the tantras.)

On a powerful vajra elephant throne,


Is the vajra mind of mirror-like wisdom,
The blue vajra, the buddha who subdues the maras.
Vajra Akshobhya, I prostrate to you.
