Introduction
This section discusses:
Purpose of this document
Note. Only those products that have significant enhancements planned are mentioned in this release
document.
Statement of Direction
The statement of direction typically is published 9 to 12 months before a release. It provides a high-
level overview of the major focus of product development efforts, enabling high-level business decision
makers to begin preliminary upgrade planning.
The release value proposition provides more functional details than the statement of direction, identifies
major enhancements, and articulates the expected business benefit. This document is designed to help
you to determine whether new product features might warrant upgrading from an old release or
embarking on a new implementation. With this information, managers will be able to initiate preliminary
budget planning and begin putting together a project team to further evaluate specific products.
Prerelease Notes
Prerelease notes provide more functional and technical details than the release value proposition. This
document describes how each enhancement functions within the context of the greater business
process. This added level of detail should enable project teams to answer the following questions:
What out-of-the-box functionality will change?
After the project team has reviewed and analyzed the prerelease notes, business decision makers
should be in the position to determine whether to allocate budget and initiate implementation plans.
Release Notes
Release notes are published at general availability (GA) and validate the final scope of the release. The
release notes discuss the features and enhancements that are available with the GA release of each
product, describing the finalized functional and technical details that will enable project teams to confirm
budgets and complete implementation plans.
The Cumulative Feature Overview Tool helps you plan your upgrades by providing concise descriptions
of new and enhanced solutions and functionality that have become available between your starting and
target releases. You simply identify the products that you own, your existing release, and your target
implementation release. With a single click, the tool quickly produces a customized set of high-level,
concise descriptions of features that have been developed between your starting and target releases.
In an easy-to-use, web-based format, you can easily manipulate and sort the results any way you wish,
download the results to Microsoft Excel, or copy the content into other implementation planning
documents.
Executive Summary
The PeopleTools development team is happy to announce the Revision 3 release of the PeopleSoft
Interaction Hub. This is part of the continuous release model, which enables us to make new
functionality and features available to customers faster. We also expect that the new features will be
easier to uptake in more fine-grained packages. The release continues Oracles commitment to
protecting and extending the value of PeopleSoft applications. It provides valuable enhancements that
improve the productivity of end users, as well as improvements to help reduce the total cost of
ownership. While the release contains many enhancements, for review purposes the enhancements
can be characterized in the following areas:
Branding
Branding
Branding now offers greater control (with PeopleTools 8.54 improvements), easier design
(WorkCenter), and easier deployment (Sample Themes).
In PeopleTools 8.54, the Branding feature has been migrated from Interaction Hub to PeopleTools
along with several enhancements. With PeopleTools branding, common actions, such as layout
manipulation, style sheet and image use, and JavaScript injection, can be managed online without
using Application Designer. For example, these tasks can be easily performed within the delivered
online pages. You will be able to:
Manage configurable header and footer layouts.
Create and employ custom themes and skins, either site-wide or within individual components.
In addition, PeopleTools branding supports component-based branding, providing the ability to apply a
consistent appearance when rendering content from multiple providers on the same page. These
enhancements have made it easier to change themes and the look of Interaction Hub. It is also easier
to clone and create templates.
In a cluster environment, the Interaction Hub will be used to brand across the cluster. A new Branding
WorkCenter is being delivered in the Interaction Hub that can be used to create, manage, and assign
role-specific themes. Branding themes can be migrated using Application Data Sets (ADS). User
attribute based theme assignments is available for Sites and Collaborative Workspaces.
In Revision 3, we delivered an out-of-the-box Hub similar to the one that is typically shown in our
demo examples. Revision 3 will continue to support Interaction Hub branding, but it will be deprecated
eventually. Oracle recommends that the PeopleTools branding framework be used to meet customer
branding requirements.
Configure Unified Navigation Remote folders. For example, specify the remote nodes whose
dashboards, landing pages, and WorkCenters are added as custom tabs on the Interaction Hub
database.
A new WorkCenter has been delivered that provides a simple mechanism for a self-service user to
create and publish content. The WorkCenter guides the user through the content creation and
publishing process.
Revision 3 also has an enhancement that enables the creation of Rich Text Editor (RTE) templates.
Content authors can use these templates at the time of the contents creation. Customers can create
templates for newsletters, email communications, announcements, or for any other purpose. The
templates can be secured using PeopleSoft roles and permissions.
