Course Description
Prerequisite: Algebra I

Geometry is a field of mathematics that is visual in nature and investigates the

relationships between points, lines, planes, surfaces, and solids. Despite relying
heavily on sketches and figures, a strong understanding of algebra is required
and will be further examined in this course. This course presents the basic structure of geometry. Emphasis is
placed on logical thinking and developing thinking skills. The student gains an understanding of coordinate
geometry and thus recognizes how geometry and algebra complement one another. The course strives to
integrate the usefulness of geometry and apply it to situations. It is a course that gives visual meaning to
mathematics. Topics include: proofs, lines, planes, polygons, circles, area, volume and coordinate geometry.

Honor Code
It is our responsibility as a community to uphold the honor code in all that we do. Honor and integrity are core
values and reflect your character and the character of our school. Students must always pledge graded work that
no unauthorized aid has been given or received. Please write our pledge in full and sign all quizzes, tests, and
projects.

Evaluation
Quarterly grades for the class will be computed on a points system as follows (these are guidelines):
Homework: 4 - 10 points each (graded for completeness and/or accuracy)
Classwork: 10 - 20 points each (graded for accuracy and completeness)
Assessments: 25 100 points depending on content covered and number of problems
Quarter grade calculation: Points earned divided by Points Possible times 100
Semester exam: 25% of semester grade (Q1 37.5%, Q2 37.5%, Mid-Term Exam 25%)
Tentative Schedule
Semester 1: Linear & Quadratic Equations, Lines, Angles, Congruent Triangles
Semester 2: Relationships in Triangles, Proportions and Similarity, Right Triangles and Trigonometry,
Quadrilaterals, Circles, Surface Area & Volume

Homework
Homework is critical to your success and you can expect an assignment each day. You are expected to check
any assigned odd problems as you complete the problem to ensure that you are completing the problems
correctly as you go! In order to receive full credit for the assignment, the student must show every problem and all
work necessary to complete it. Please include the following on each assignment: your name, the date of the
assignment, page numbers/worksheet number, each problem number, original problem, work, and circled final
answer.

Homework assignments will be posted to my website: http://dianemonaco.weebly.com. The site can be accessed
directly or through my teacher page on the Trinity website.

Tutorial/Additional Help Every Day at the Start of the Discovery Period in Room A-1
All students are encouraged to take advantage of tutorial. Sometimes just a quick one-on-one explanation can
make a big difference in understanding the material.

When You Miss Class

Your presence in class is critical to your success. Excessive absences will be detrimental to your
understanding of the material and your performance on assessments.

It is always your responsibility to obtain class notes, assignments, and complete homework, quizzes, and tests,
when you miss class for any reason. If you know in advance that you will miss class (field trip, athletic event,
scheduled trip), it is my expectation that you will turn in homework or arrange to take scheduled assessments in
advance of your absence whenever possible. In the event of an unplanned absence, you are expected to use
my website to get the assignment(s) and put forth noticeable effort in understanding and completing the
assignment(s). Generally, you will be given a one day extension for each day you are absent. Make-up
quizzes/tests will be placed in the study hall folder and must be made up within 1-2 days depending on the length
of your absence. It is very important that you communicate with your teachers immediately when you
return to school to establish an appropriate schedule for making up all work.

Cell Phone/Laptop Policy: The use of cell phones is PROHIBITED during class, unless specifically authorized
as part of a class activity. Violators will have their cell phones confiscated and given to an administrator for 2
business days.

During any assessment (quizzes, tests, and exams), cell phones must NOT be in your possession. They must
be placed in the cell phone holder on the back of the door of the classroom. Students with cell phones in
their possession during a quiz, test, or exam will be referred to honor council.

Extended Time: Students who have documented extended time as part of their FEP with TES ARC must
complete the assessment on the day that it is given. This will be done either in study hall or immediately after
school in my classroom or the library. It is the students responsibility to communicate clearly when using
extended time by writing TIME at the top of the assessment and indicating when the assessment will be
completed: Study Hall (provide Class #) or After School.
