Anewlydeveloped4zoneheatingandair-conditioningunitisusedonallG12models.
Abrushlessblowermotorintegratedintotheheatingandair-conditioningunitprovidesthesupplyof
freshairtothevehicleinteriorvia2microfilters.Themicrofiltersaswellastheblowermotorcanbe
accessedfromtherightfootwell.
TheIHKAcontrolunitispartoftheheatingandair-conditioningcontrolpanel.
Workonheatingandair-conditioningsystemsmustonlybeperformedbycompetentandqualified
personnel.Workshoppersonnelperformingactivitiesinconnectionwithheatingandair-conditioning
systemsinvehiclesrequireacertificateoftraining.

optimized.
3.3.EvaporatorwithAccumulator
Theautomaticenginestart-stopfunction(MSA)canbeusedtoswitchofftheengine.Inthiscase,no
refrigerantisdeliveredtotheevaporator.Asaresult,onlylimitedcoolingcapacityisavailabletocool
thevehicleinterior.Ifthevehicleisatastandstillforanextendedperiodoftime,theengineneedstobe
restartedinordertocooltheinterior.ThiscounteractstheEfficientDynamicsmeasuresandincreases
fuelconsumption.
Anaccumulatorevaporatorisused.Itisinstalledupstreamoftheair-conditioningevaporatorandhas
thesameconceptasontheF10.Theaccumulatorevaporatorisfilledwithalatentsubstancethatcan
absorbandstorecoolingenergyveryeffectively.Thecoldairflowingpastinnormaloperationcharges
theaccumulatorevaporatorandcanalmostdoubleitscapacity.

specialpipe-in-pipesystemusestherefrigerantexitingtheevaporator(withatemperatureofapprox.
5C/41F)tocooldownthepreviouslycondensedrefrigerantfromtheairconditioningcondenser
fromapprox.55C/131Ftoapprox.45C/113F.Thisincreasestheevaporatorperformance
andreducesthecirculatingflowofrefrigerantwiththesamecoolingpower.Asaresult,thepower
consumptionoftheairconditioningcompressorisreduced,whichlowersfuelconsumption.
Theheatinputintotherefrigerantflowingtothecompressorcausestherefrigeranttocompletely
evaporate.Thispreventsliquidrefrigerantthatiscarriedalongfromenteringtheairconditioning
compressor.

display.Assoonasthetouchpaneldetectsthatauserhastouchedthescreen,aninformationpage
appearsonthecentralinformationdisplay(CID)withinformationaboutthedesiredsettingforthe
operator.Thispagedisappearsautomaticallyafterafewseconds.

distributioncanbetransferredtothepassenger'ssideandtherearpassengercompartmentby

forthedriver/frontpassenger).Toadjust,userscanslidetheirfingerortouchthepanelatthedesired
position.Theindexthenjumpsdirectlytothepositionthattheuserhastouched.Thethirdoptionis
totouchtherespectiveendposition(blueorred).Theindexthenjumpsonelevelintherespective
direction.Assoonasthesystemdetectsthatauserhastouchedthepanel,thisisshownaccordingly

Airfreshener
TheAmbientAirPackageoptionalequipment(OE4NM)includesanairfreshenerandanionizer.
Theairfreshenerenhancesthevehicleinteriorwithoneof4selectablefragrances,eachofwhich
isavailablein2intensitylevels.2ofthese4selectablecartridgescanbeplacedtogetherinasmall
extendablestoragecompartmentinthegloveboxonthepassenger'sside.Customerscanthen
decidebetweenoneofthetwofragrancesprovided.Itisonlypossibletoselecttheavailablefragrance
cartridgesonthecentralinformationdisplay(CID)usingtheiDrivecontroller.Anintensitylevelfrom1
to3canbeselectedbythemenuonthecentralinformationdisplay(CID)orusingthebuttonontheair
conditioningcontrolpanel.Iftheuseractivatestheairfreshenertheinformationwindowautomatically
appearsonthecentralinformationdisplay(CID).Itisnotpossibletomixthetwofragrances.

Theselectedfragranceenhancesthevehicleinteriorinpulsesatdefinedintervalsaccordingtothe
configuredintensitylevel.Thisisbecauseaperson'ssenseofsmelladjuststoagivenscentrelatively
quicklyandthennolongerperceivesit.Whensteppingintothevehicle,a"welcomescenario"is
activateddependingonthesettingsofthepersonalizedignitionkey(KeyMemory).Dependingonthe
settingfortheintensitylevel,aseparatefaninstalledintheairfreshenerunitthendirectsairthrough
thecartridgeevery90s5min,whichissuppliedtothevehicleinterior.Theenhancedairisonly
directedintothevehicleinterioratonecentralpointatthetopoftheinstrumentpanel.Tofacilitatethis,
itmustbeensuredthatthevehicleinteriorisindirectlyventilated.Iftheairfreshenerisdeactivatedon
thecentralinformationdisplay(CID),theintegratedfanintheairfreshenerunitcontinuesrunningfor
approx.30stopurgethesystem.

ofupto2.5years.Withaverageconsumptionthecartridgeswilllastapprox.36monthsbeforethey
needtobereplaced.Emptyfragrancecartridgescanbedisposedofwithhouseholdwaste.Every
cartridgeisequippedwithaSIMcardthatprovidesinformationonthefragrance,fillinglevelandageof
thecartridgebytheLIN-bus.Thelidonthecartridge,whichsealsthecartridgeusingarubbersealon
thehousing,preventsthefragrancefromescapingwhilethecartridgeisinstorage.Thecartridgelidis
pushedonandneedstoberemovedbeforeinsertingthecartridgeintotheairfreshenerunit.Thelid
canbeslidbackontotherearsideofthecartridge,butthisisnotrequiredtoinsertthecartridgeinto
theairfreshenerunit,itsonlyforstoringthelidforfutureuse.

systemintheG12alwaysfunctionswhenthevehicleisinuseandthesystemisnotswitchedoffon
thecentralinformationdisplay(CID).
Theionizerisresponsibleforbringingnegativelychargedairionsintothevehicleinterior.Theaimis
toeliminatepathogenicmicroorganismsintheair,suchasgermsandallergens.Dirtparticlesintheair
flowingpastbecomeheavierasaresultoftheadhesionofthenegativeionsandthebondinginto
amolecule,andsinktothebottom.

Theemittersthatareinstalledintheairductsofthecentralventsareoperatedusingahigh-voltage
dischargeofapprox.20003000V.However,thecurrentappliedforthislieswithinthemicroampere
rangeof0.53Aandisthereforenon-hazardous.Onlynegativelychargedairionsaregeneratedas
aresultoftheairflowingpasttheemitters.Thesecanbindmoreoxygen,whichcontributestoan
improvedsenseofwellbeingandhigherconcentration.
