1. PUBLICATIONS, EXHIBITIONS AND PERFORMANCES.

1.1 Performances of my Sole Compositions

a. The following (sole) compositions of mine were performed during the Ninth Sydney Spring
International Festival of New Music, held at the Eugene Goossens Hall, ABC Centre,
Harris Street, Ultimo, Sydney, during September 1998:
Ian Shanahan: Echoes/Fantasies (1984) for bass clarinet [Sue Newsome], vibraphone(s)
[Claire Edwardes], and tubular bells [Timothy Paillas], on Friday, 18 September
1998.
Ian Shanahan: Dimensiones Paradisi (1998) for solo (amplified) alto flute [Kathleen
Gallagher], on Saturday, 26 September 1998. World Premiere Performance

1.2 Sole Compositions released on Compact Disc

a. Compact Disc: Solar Dust. Broad Music Records Jade JAD CD 1080.
Ian Shanahan: Arcturus Timespace (1987), Stephen Morey (mandolin, percussion).
Ian Shanahan: Solar Dust: Orbits and Spirals (1988), Paul Hooper (mandolin).
Ian Shanahan: 153 Infinities (1996), Tamara Anna Cislowska (piano) and the Sprung
Percussion Ensemble (6 percussion).
Released in Australia, the U.S.A. and Europe through EMI, November 1998.

1.3 Performance released on Compact Disc

a. A performance by Ian Shanahan (soprano recorder) has been recorded on the Compact Disc:
Solar Dust. Broad Music Records Jade JAD CD 1080 (see 1.2a above).
Gary Monger: Gecko (1998), Ian Shanahan (soprano recorder).

1.4 Participation in a Performance

a. Ian Shanahan (soprano recorder), participated in a performance during a Live Broadcast on


ABC Classic FM from Eugene Goossens Hall, ABC Centre, Harris Street, Ultimo, Sydney,
as part of the weekly radio programme New Music Australia (hosted by John Crawford), on
Wednesday, 23 September 1998 at 9.30 pm. The work I performed, with the ensemble
austraLYSIS, was one of my own (sole) compositions:
Ian Shanahan: Zodiac: Crystal Orbit Improvisations (1996) for soprano recorder [Ian
Shanahan], MIDI wind instrument (Yamaha WX7) [Sandy Evans], and keyboard
synthesizer (Yamaha DX7) [Roger Dean].

2. REVIEWS OF THE WORK OF STAFF

a. Concert Review (including discussion of Ian Shanahans latest composition Dimensiones

3. CONFERENCE ATTENDANCES (International Conference)

a. Ian Shanahan attended the 1998 Spring Academy of New Music (an international conference
held under the auspices of the Ninth Sydney Spring International Festival of New Music), 2-
9 September 1998, at The Old Darlington School, University of Sydney.

4. AWARDS TO STAFF

a. For the second successive year, a jury of distinguished musicians has awarded Ian Shanahan the
1998 Marienberg Sydney Spring Award for Composition, for the most outstanding original
Australian composition (Shanahans piece Dimensiones Paradisi) performed during the
Ninth Sydney Spring International Festival of New Music (1998).
b. Two compositions by Ian Shanahan, [p]s(t)ellor/mneme and 153 Infinities, were nominated by
a NSW committee for the 1998 Sounds Australian National Award, for the best
composition by an Australian Composer performed during 1997.

5. MEDIA COVERAGE

a. The following compositions by Ian Shanahan (see 1.1a above) were featured during the weekly
radio programme New Music Australia (hosted by John Crawford) on ABC Classic FM,
broadcast on Wednesdays at 9.30 pm:
Ian Shanahan: Echoes/Fantasies (1984) for bass clarinet, vibraphone(s), and tubular bells,
broadcast on Wednesday, 30 September 1998.
Ian Shanahan: Dimensiones Paradisi (1998) for solo (amplified) alto flute, broadcast on
