For unit 3
The goals of this project are to obtain an understanding in great detail how technical
writing is utilized in electrical engineering, as well as communications in electrical en-
gineering. Then I will conduct two interviews and do some private research and study-
ing in order to complete a multitude of projects including a newsletter, poster, 6 min.
TABLE OF CONTENTS:
With the information gained from these websites, I hope to gain at least a very basic
understanding of what types of documentation are used in electrical engineering. After
reading these two articles I plan to generate a list of interview questions for two Indi-
viduals. I then plan to pair up with two others (Brad Kirch and Blake Anderson) and
compare and incorporate our interview questions. Then we will be interviewing two
professional electrical engineers. The first one will Be Mitchel E. Schiltz, a professor of
electrical engineering at western technical college, and author of the number one sell-
ing intro to Electrical Engineering book, Grobes Basic Electronics. The second Inter-
viewee will be Jeff Fancher, a professor of Electrical Engineering, and certified engi-
neer. With these interviews I hope to learn what technical documents are used in
electrical engineering, and more importantly how they are created and the process of
using them. I also hope to obtain some examples of these documents to further study.
If the interviews dont give me all the information I need I plan on utilizing westerns
databases and Google Scholar to find examples of the technical documents common-
ly found in electrical engineering.
Plan Of Action
With Dr. Fanchers and Mr. Schultzs permission, Brad, Blake and I plan to interview
and record answers to our questions relating to the communication in the electrical
engineering field and technical documents in that field by the first of July. After the in-
terviews, I will study and find any more information I may need to complete a Two
page newsletter related to communication in the electrical engineering world. This pro-
ject will be done by July 5th. I then plan to create a poster by July 19th, and create
and deliver a 5-6 minute oral presentation on all my findings by August 2nd. I will wrap
up all my work by then creating a resume, and personal statement by august 14th,
and finish the semester and project by August 16th with a portfolio website.
Evaluation
The way I feel as though the project can be evaluated is by the content and extent of
how much information I have learned about communication and technical documents
in the field of electrical engineering as a whole. This includes everything learned at the
interviews as well as everything self-studied and learned through further investigation.
The evaluation of my process could be measured in how well I kept with with my de-
scription of proposed research, as well as how well i finished the other projects in unit
3. Evaluation of my steps could be measured in how well each project helped the next
project, as they all work off of each other.
