an introduction, a body and a conclusion which demonstrates their understanding of surveys
as an information collection tool.

VI. Diversity / Differentiation:

Tablets with multiple manipulatives for differentiated instruction for special needs
learners
Tablets with unique setting options for special needs learners
Tablets that can translate text, or use translators
Blended instruction for students to self-pace their learning
Virtual Classroom: all material accessible in one place and feedback by instructors
at any time.
Differentiated technology inclusion for learning modality manipulation

VII. Technology Inclusion:

Describe the technology tools and resources that will be used in the lesson. This
includes what the teacher will utilize during instruction and assessment.
Tablets, laptops
WIFI with 20Mbps for upload video streaming
Interactive white boards
Symbaloo
Google Classroom
Prezi/ PowToons/ Google Slides/
Android or Apple Apps
One Note

VIII. Prior Knowledge:

Prior to this lesson, students will have experience using technology to collect and input data. Students
will have critical thinking skills and an understanding of purpose and objective of surveys. Students
will know how to present data and illustrate cause and effect sequences. Students will have learned
how to work individually and use problem solving skills to construct a deeper understanding of data
interpretation.
Lesson Placement in the Unit: This is lesson #1 of 1. A 5-day lesson.

IX. Procedures:

1. Lesson Introduction / Anticipatory Set:

Today we are going to develop group surveys in which we will collect, organize, and
present the data analysis outcomes posed by the questions you select.

Take out your tablets and headphones and individually watch this video: What is
Survey Research definition, methods & types
4

http://study.com/academy/lesson/what-is-survey-research-definition-methods-
types.html

2. Direct Instruction:
Describe how new content is presented. Include all resources and how they will be used

After viewing the introduction video, Define and describe the following keywords in
the One Note App and upload to our Google Classroom for assessment and feedback.
1. Questionnaires
2. Interviews
3. Surveys

Decide on a survey topic and determine which app you will use to construct your
survey and begin developing your questions and styling format. View Links on the Recourse Page:

Quick Tap Survey

Survey Rock
Survey Monkey

3. Student Interaction with lesson content / Guided Practice:

Describe how students will participate and interact with the lesson content.

Students will determine a survey topic of their choice and construct a series of
questions which include multiple-choice questions, yes or no, or short answer
responses.

Survey examples: Pet Ownership

Importance of College Degree
Public Transportation
Art and Sports on Campus

Students will determine a design style in which to format their survey: it should not be
overtly distracting to the survey taker but should be esthetically pleasing to the viewer.

Students will administer their survey over a 3-day time period and collect 25-30
complete survey responses and then analyze and plot the results and draw conclusions.
Create a data analysis using Solver.com or SurveyAnalytics.com

4. Independent Practice:

Students (individually) will be responsible for collecting 25-30 survey responses within
3 days. The homework is to distribute the survey the student creates through email
5

contacts with embedded URL link, or in printed format. It is acceptable to use social
media to collect survey responses with prior approval.

As surveys are returned, students will begin plotting the data into Solve.com and begin
analyzing the results and developing the final whole-class presentation using a
presentation tool.

Students will go the following website and participate in the Smartphone Apps/Games
Survey by Survey Monkey:
https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/Q9X2PLM

Students will create a Symbaloo account and develop a webmix of education tools,
such as presentation tools, survey creation tools, and research tools and publish a
symbaloo to the google classroom discussion board with at least 7 tools.

Students will view 4 other student webmixes and leave a comment that discusses the
value or benefit of the webmix. The student will also make suggestions as necessary.

Students will create a presentation of their final survey results that will be presented at
the end of the lesson.

5. Review / Closure:

Lesson Wrap Up: Students will collect the returned surveys and plot the data points to
develop the statistical analysis and create a document which includes discussion on the
following points:

And the Survey Says

Intro: What is your survey about, what is the purpose of your survey. Why do you
believe the outcome will be?

Body: What does your survey reveal. Why is this survey superior at collecting data on
this topic? Embed the statistical survey results in a graph or chart form.

Closure: What was the outcome? Did it differ from your original position? How will
you use surveys in the future to collect information on complex topics?

Students will submit their final presentation and Essay in the Google Classroom under
assessments for feedback and grading.

Students will conclude their work by building a presentation and on the final day they
will present their survey research and analysis to the class and for assessment. Students
will be following the grading rubric And the Survey Says to guide them through the
creation of their presentation.

6. Presentations:
6

Students will prepare a final whole-class presentation to share their survey and
statistical findings. They will choose from the following presentation tools:

Keynote
PowerPoint
PowToons
Google Slides
Prezi

X. Evaluation/Assessment:

The summative assessment will be the evaluation of the students ability to convey the results from the
conducted survey. Students will develop concise questions to ask their target survey audience and then
will conclude those results by plugging in the answers into a software program that will help uncover
the findings. Students will then analyze and write the conclusion as a compare and contrast to their
original hypothesis with 90% accuracy.

The final class presentation using a variety of available tools will measure the students ability to
organize information in a sequence and display the results using a presentation software tool. Students
will be graded on their organization and preparedness.

Points:
XI. Risk Analysis:

Servers wont respond when trying to log into the virtual classroom
Server upload speed is below 20 Mbps for watching video
Students are lacking technology navigation skills

Potential problem-solving strategies:

Upload the introduction instructional video for the interactive white board if students cannot
access the video on individual tablets
Servers will be tested for speed maintenance prior to the start of the class daily.
Students will have a prior knowledge check and lesson flexibility will allow for instructors to
support students that need extra help
