NATIONAL GRID CORPORATION OF THE PHILIPPINES (NGCP)

Is a private corporation that maintain And operates the power transmission


network of the philippines. NGCP is a joint venture of the State Grid Corporation
of China, Monte Oro Grid Resource of the Philippines, Calaca High Power
Corporation. It was created and took over TransCo on january 15, 2009 through
RA 9511. The corporation was inaugurated in manila by Zheng Baosen, vise
president of the of the State Grid Corporation of China. This venture is the
biggest investment made by china to the philippines, in which 40% is owned by
china . NGCP also updates the daily power situation outlook for Luzon,
Visayas, and Mindanao by determining the available capacity, system peak,
and gross reserve which is all in units of MW (Megawatts)

QUESTIONS FOR THE NGCP

1. In nation wide operation how many lines, transmission towers, and


substation does NGCP operates ?
NGCP's nationwide operations is one of the largest in the country, with
more than 21,000 circuit kilometers of lines, 20,000 transmission towers,
and 140 substations. The company ensures that its services are
available when and where it is needed.

2. Explain the total power demand in the philippines


Luzon :Composed of Metro Manila, North Luzon, and South Luzon, the
largest grid in the country accounts for 74% of the country's total power
demand.
Visayas : The interconnected island grids of Cebu, Negros, Panay,
Leyte, Samar, and Bohol compose the Visayas grid. The region accounts
for 14% of the country's total power demand.
Mindanao : Mindanao is strategically located in the southernmost section
of the archipelago, making it a center of trade and major transhipment
point between the East ASEAN regions, particularly to Eastern
Indonesia, Malaysia, and Brunei Darussalam. It accounts for 12% of the
total power demand.

4. In the continuous power price hike is NGCP have a part causing this
hikes ?

On Friday, Manila Electric Co. cited NGCPs transmission charge as one


of the reasons for the increase in electricity rates in February. It said the
charge imposed by NGCP rose by 15 centavos per kilowatt-hour
because the increase of the power delivery service charges after the grid
operator implemented the higher interim maximum annual revenue
(iMAR) provisionally approved by the ERC for last year.. It also said
higher ancillary service charges also contributed to the increase. -- Victor

5.Explain the collection 2016-2017 of the NGCP

National Grid Corp. of the Philippines (NGCP) has started collecting this
year a transmission charge amounting to P2 billion, representing the
difference between what the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC)
provisionally approved and the final amount it cleared.
Mark Anthony S. Actub, NGCP deputy general counsel, said that ahead
of the approval of the fourth regulatory period, the ERC had cleared the
collection of P43.789 billion as interim maximum annual revenue.
