Testing of RC Beam

1
RCC Beam

RC Beam
Item Calculations
Size of Beam 3300 x 150 x 250 mm3
Size of Cubes (6 Nos.) 6 x 150 x 150 x 150 mm3
Size of Cylinders (6 Nos.) 6 x (150/2)2 x x 300 mm3
W/c 0.45
Nominal Mix 1 : 1.5 : 3
Total Volume 0.1758 m3
Add 20% extra wastage =1.2 x 0.1758 = 0.211 m3
Density of the concrete 2400 kg/ m3
Weight of the concrete 2400 x 0.211 = 500.00 kg
Weight of cement = 1/(1+1.5+3) x 500 kg = 92 kg
Weight of Coarse Aggregates = 1.5/(1+1.5+3) x 500 kg = 138 kg
Weight of Fine Aggregates = 3/(1+1.5+3) x 500 kg = 276 kg
Weight of water = 92 x 0.45 = 41.4 kg

2
Objective
To test the RC beam and studying the behaviour under two point
loading upto the ultimate stage

Apparatus
Universal Testing Machine (UTM)
Demac gauges
Deflection gauges
Magnifying glass

3
Procedure
Fix the mechanical gauge beads/electrical resistance strain gages
in the positions where strains are to be recorded
Place the beam on the test bench under the UTM with proper
alignment
Place the dial gauges in position where deflections are required
Apply load in predetermined incremental values and measure the
displacements and deflections corresponding to each load
i
increment t
Observe whether any cracks appear anywhere in the beam during
the loading process
Mark if any crack is observed in the beam and note the load at
which such crack appears
Apply loads till the failure of the beam and note down the ultimate
load.
