    about1400Cto1500C.Initssimplestform,therotarykilnisatubeupto200metreslongandperhaps6metresindiameter,
    withalongflameatoneend.Therawfeedentersthekilnatthecoolendandgraduallypassesdowntothehotend,thenfalls
    outofthekilnandcoolsdown.

    Thematerialformedinthekilnisdescribedas'clinker'andistypicallycomposedofroundednodulesbetween1mmand25mm
    across.

    Aftercooling,theclinkermaybestoredtemporarilyinaclinkerstore,oritmaypassdirectlytothecementmill.

    Thecementmillgrindstheclinkertoafinepowder.Asmallamountofgypsumaformofcalciumsulfateisnormallygroundup
    withtheclinker.Thegypsumcontrolsthesettingpropertiesofthecementwhenwaterisadded.
