2
Introduction (1/2)
The formation of emulsions is a problem that can arise
during recovery, processing and transportation of oil. The
stability of these emulsions has been attributed to the
formation of a film in the oil-water interface.
The complexity of the crude oil emulsions depends of the
composition in terms of interface-active molecules, mainly
resins and asphaltenes.

Objectives (1/1)
General Objective:
Evaluate the formation of emulsions due to the effect of the
resin-asphaltene interaction in ISC processes
Specific Objectives:
Evaluate the stability of asphaltenes by resins and their
interactions
Evaluate the stability of the emulsions by concentration of
asphaltenes due to changes of temperature
Evaluate the physical-chemical changes of the fluid due to
the ISC process

6
7
Methodology
First Objective: Analyze the behavior of the resin-asphaltene
interactions by altering the thermodynamic conditions of the
system (pressure, temperature and / or composition) and the
possible effects in asphaltene.

7
8
Methodology
Second Objective:

Preparation of Emulsions
Viscosity measurement
Drop size measurement
Behavior analysis of emulsions with different concentrations
of asphaltenes

9
Methodology
Third Objective:

The in situ combustion process generates sub-products, the

study of the sub-products allows to see the changes in the
molecular structure of the hydrocarbon and to observe in
which temperature scenario those compounds were
generated.

Expected Results
The determination of hydrocarbon and water saturations plays a very
important role in the management of the reservoir. These measurements
over time are useful for:

Tracking reservoir depletion

Workover planning
Enhanced recovery strategies
Diagnosis of problems in production
