Zen-tangle Name Project (Line)

Objective: Create a work of art using your name and various

Zen-tangle designs.
Students will:

Recognize how the element of art Line can be used

in the creation of original artwork
use their knowledge of the elements of art to create
inventive designs
Materials:

Pencil and sharpie

Paper and eraser
Requirements:

Must have at least 8 different Zen-tangle Designs

Must use your name or nickname
Must be completed in sharpie
Vocabulary:
Line, Line quality, Zen-tangle, Composition, Background,
Silhouette and Design
Estimated Time: 6 to 7 days

Steps
Step 1: Practice

After introducing the project, students will have to practice how to draw various Zen-tangles and how
differentiating the line quality can have an effect on the overall design. Students should have at least 8
different Zen-tangle designs for this project. They will also have to practice writing their names in block
letters before moving on to the final product.
Step 2: Plan

Students must decide how they want to divide the paper (must be divided into at least 8 sections) and
where they will place each of the Zen-tangle designs. They will also determine what style they want to
draw their name and where it will be placed on their paper.
Step 3: Create

On the final sheet of paper, students will write their names as large as they can. They will then use light
pencil lines to divide their paper for the 8 different Zen-tangle design. As students are drawing their
Zen-tangles on their paper, they must make sure to avoid drawing inside the letters of their names.
There should be no designs or colors inside of the name.
