Board Removal
Board Identification
Replacement of Battery
Procedures:
- Be sure that the unit is turned off with the ON/OFF switch;
- Removed the four screws holding the face plate to the
housing;
- Removed the face plate and carefully place it face down.
Warning: Do not twist or crimp the interface cable to
display.
- The TRS battery comes standard with a harness attached to
the battery. Disconnect the battery from the unit, removed
the battery bracket and remove the battery. Note: The
battery is kept in place with a bracket to protect the unit
against shock, so be sure to put the bracket back in placed
when finished.
Continuation

- Insert the new battery. Remember, because the TRS

battery comes with a keyed harness attached, there is a
little chance of connecting a battery backward to the unit.
- Replace the face plate and replace the screws,
- Turn-unit back on.
GASKET
The lid gasket is attached to the lid. It is made of a material
which compresses to match the edge of the counter box.
The keyboard is made of rubber keys which compress
against the LCD plate.
The external inputs found on the front of the recorder each
have there own gasket. Whenever removing these
connectors, it is recommended that the gasket be replaced.

CONNECTIONS
No maintenance should be needed for these connectors. If
connectors should be damaged it is recommended to
replace the gasket when removing the external connector.
STORAGE
Locate area where the counters can be accessed for routine
maintenance.
Schedule battery recharging at least once every two to
three months.
Be sure the unit is turned off before storing. If the counter
is to be stored for an extended length of time, be sure to
remove the battery.
The lithium battery which preserves the time in the unit,
should be changed every 3 to 5 years depending upon use.
BOARD REMOVAL
The TRS unit has been specifically designed for simple board removal.
Remove the four screws fro the faceplate. Full the faceplate upward
and the CPU board will be removed simultaneously. The TRS Unit has
a single CPU with all road tube and auxiliary inputs built onto the main
board for ease of maintenance.

BOARD IDENTIFICATION

Each TRS CPU board is clearly marked on the silk screen with board
specific information. This information may be needed during hardware
level support.
Warning!!!!!
NEVER HANDLE T.R.S.
ELECTRONICS WITHOUT PROPER
STATIC ELECTRIC PRECAUTIONS.
TROUBLE SHOOTING OF TRS-Big MACHINE

PROBLEMS
1. Unit will not turn On.
Be sure the unit is switched ON.
Check battery to make sure it is above 5.5 volts
Verify battery harness is connect properly.
Attach unit to the computer via the dump cable to see if the
unit communicates with the PC.
2. Unit Will Not Count

Check to see if the sensors are operating under the System

Diag. Menu.
Check to be sure the unit is programmed correctly.
Check the air switch cables inside the unit to be sure they
are attached properly.
Be sure your road tubes are operating correctly.
3. Unit Will Not Communicate
Check the dump cable on another counter.
Check to be sure the Baud Rate is the same in the counter
and the Road Reporter Software.
Be sure the battery voltage is above 5.5 volts in the unit.

4. Unit Will Not Charge Battery

Check charger to make sure it is working properly with
other counter.
Check battery to make sure it is OK.
Check the solar panel output to be sure in the sun that the
panel is outputting voltage.
5. PIEZOS NOT FUNCTIONING PROPERLY

Verify that the piezo sensitivity jumpers are set correctly.

Turn off power and remove the 8 input piezo class board,
or the 8 input piezo WIM board and check jumper settings
as per instruction below. Make sure that you determine if
you are adjusting a piezo class or a piezo WIM board.

- Set to LOW for BL Portable sensors

- Set to MEDIUM for BL in ground sensors
TROUBLE SHOOTING FOR TRS-Mini Machine
PROBLEMS
1. Unit Will Not Turn ON (same procedures in TRS-Big).
2. Unit Will Not Communicate (same with TRS-Big).
3. Unit Will Not Charge Battery (same with TRS-Big).
4. Unit Will Not Count
a) Check to see if the sensors are operating under the System/Diag.
Menu.
b) Check to be sure the unit is programmed correctly.
c) Check the air switch cable inside the unit to be sure they are
attached properly.
d) Make sure there is no debris inside the air switch nozzles.
e) Be sure your road tubes are operating correctly.
f) Make sure the tube sensitivity/debounce is set correctly. Please
refer to TRS-mini Airswitch Settings.
SOME TIPS TO PROLONG THE LIFE OF YOUR ATC MACHINE

1. Always dry the unit out completely after removing from the field.

2. Always attach the dust caps onto unused plugs.

3. Keeping the battery fully charged will prolong its service life. Recharge battery
every six weeks when not in use.

4. Disconnect the serial interface plug if serial communication is not required. This
will substantially prolong battery life.

5. Avoid placement of unit in drainage ditches or areas prone to flooding.

6. Do not attempt service without qualified personnel. The components of the

ATC machine are very static sensitive, and boards can be damage by improper
handling.

7. When clearing the LCD display, it is best to attempt blowing off as much as
dust as possible before wiping the surface with a soft damp cloth. This
method limit the chances of scratches being caused by the abrasive found in
the dust.
