Module 1 - Introductions & Logics
CFA
The Cat Fanciers' Association is a non-profit organization founded in
1906, after breaking ties with the American Cat Association.
In 1906, CFA published the first Stud Book and Register in the Cat
Journal. In 1909, Volume I of the Stud Book was published in book
form. The Stud Book and Register served as CFA's first published
records of cat breeding and lineage as it began a tradition of
providing a much-needed service to the cat fancy.
Central Office locations were at Jean Roses house, Manasquan,
New Jersey to the current one in Alliance, Ohio.
Currently, CFA has over 600 member clubs.
CFA currently recognizes 40 pedigreed breeds for showing in the
Championship Class, and 2 breeds (Chinese Li Hua and Burmilla) in
the Miscellaneous Class.

Meet GC, GP, BW, NW Tuvets Marthas Pick of Abizaq, DM

One of the examples of many titled cats like he is.
Do you have the right cats to show?
So why do we show a cat?
We show because
As an exhibitor, we want to see whether the
cat we show is close enough to the breed
standard
As a breeder, we want to see (i) how close our
interpretations of breeding to the breed
standard (ii) where our cats stand among
others
we are title crazy!
and just for the fun of it!!
Module 2 - Pre-Show Stuff
Do you have the RIGHT cat to show?
MUST HAVES
An (at least) eligible kitten/cat pedigreed or
not to be shown. For the purpose of this
seminar we are only discussing a Pedigreed
CFA recognized breeds cats.
Means to attend a cat show in terms of time
and financial.
Equally important (gulp): Passion and
Patience!
Preparing a cat
Preparations dont usually start on a day
before the show. It starts months before!
Important elements include grooming, diet
and health check as well as socialization.
Equally important is human mental and
physical preparations including time, attention
and financial.

As an exhibitor we have to record the judging done by the
judges in our catalogue
CFA ribbons/flags
Blue means 1st Place in its sex and class i.e among
males and OPN/CH or among Grands
Red means 2nd Place
Yellow means 3rd Place

Black means Best of Color among the cats in its class

White means 2nd Place

Brown means Best of Breed/Division among all

competed in its class
Orange means 2nd Best of Breed
Purple means Best Champion/Premier in
Breed/Division

Merit Awards are given to household pets

So what do all those things mean?
Basic principles
1. Judges will judge and award in the following sequence: sex in same titles
(OPN/CH, then Grands) then for both sexes for Best of Color.
2. Cats who have been awarded First Place and Best of Color usually have higher
chances to be awarded Best of Breed, 2nd Best of Breed or Best
Champion/Premier in Breed/Division.
3. As soon as the Purple Ribbon has been awarded, grand points are accumulated
provided the cat is not the only cat in the class.
4. Same goes to BOB and 2nd BOB, e-points and Breed points are automatically
accumulated when these ribbons awarded.
5. It is not uncommon to see all BOB, 2nd BOB and Best Champion in the same color
class.
6. Usually judges will put his/her BOBs in his/her Top Ten (Finals) and Best
Champions in his/her Champion/Premier Finals. However there are cases where
none of this listed his/her Top Ten or Champion/Premier Finals.
7. Top Ten is where the show points and grand points are awarded. These points
then accumulated for the end of season Division/Regional/National/Breed
Standings
8. Champion/Premier Finals are where the grand points collected even though any
CH/PR who are used in Top Ten will get some Grand points.
Show mechanic - Kitten Class
Show mechanics Adults
Scoring philosophy
Ultimately there are two points that exhibitors
want:
Grand points
E-points
Calculating Grand Points
The concepts:
- Any cat who completed the Qualifying Rings
requirements and not being Disqualified is
eligible for Grand Championship/Premiership
status.
- While completing the QRs (4 or 6 depending on
the region), cats who receive a Purple ribbon,
being used in Champions/Premiers Final or Top
Ten are collecting Grand points automatically.
- Show rules 9.01 9.06 pertains to this matter
- So how do we calculate the Grand points?
Example

A maine coon CH was used as the following results:

- Ring 1: 3rd Best Longhair Champion
- Ring 2: 2nd Best Longhair Champion, 2nd Best AllBreed Champion, 6th Best Cat in Championship
- Ring 3: 2nd Best of Breed, Purple ribbon no final
- Ring 4: Best of Breed No Finals.

How many points did he get and did he grand?

The calculations
There were 4 Maine Coon CHs, 16 Longhair CHs and 22 All Breed CHs. Grand
points is counted based on how many CHs the cat has beaten and as the cat
cannot beat itself, we minus 1 for every count. Grand points available is 3 MCO
CHs, 15 LH CHs, 21 AB CHs. Just like e-points, the subsequent CHs awarded will get
0.8, 0.7 and so on from the Best CH i.e 2nd Best 0.9, 3rd Best 0.8, 4th Best 0.7 and so
on We always take the higher points in every ring.
1. Ring 1 Best Longhair . With Purple Ribbon the cat automatically 3 GC points,
but he was used in the Champions Final and gets Best Longhair so he gets 15
Grand points. 3 GC points ignored.
2. Ring 2 2nd Best AB Champion, 2 Best LH CH. He gets 3 GC pts from Purple
Ribbon, 2nd Best LH CH (0.9 x 15 LH CHs = 13.5 pts) and 2nd Best AB CH (0.9 x 21
AB CHs = 18.9 pts). So he gets 18.9 pts. 18.9 pts + 15 = 33.9 pts.
3. Ring 3 he gets BOB but no Final that means he gets 3 GC pts. 33.9 + 3 = 36.9 pts
4. Ring 4 has the same case. Another 3 GC pts so 39.9 pts.
5. Total Grand points is 33.9 pts. We do not round up the number usually until we
reach the required pts i.e 125 for GC or 50 pts for GP.
6. Now, how many e-points does this cat get if he was also a 9th Best Cat in
Championship in Ring 2?
A Somali gets a 3rd Best AB PR (Ring 1), BOB (Ring 2), 2nd
Best AB PR (Ring 3), Best Cat in Premiership (Ring 4), 2nd
Best AB PR (Ring 5) and Best SH PR (Ring 6). How many
grand points did the cat get? Did he grand?
E-points
E-points is show points that cat accumulates when it is being used in the Top Ten AB
or SP rings.
E-points ultimately will be used in the standing to see the final ranking at the end of
the season for National/Regional/Divisional/Breed Wins.
Best of Color also uses e-points to determine which cat gets the title BOC and 2nd
BOC Nationally or Regionally.
The scoring will take 40 highest rings for Kittens and 100 highest rings for Adults.
These points can be viewed at the Online Almanac at CFA Online Services website
(http://secure.cfa.org). While registering for the portal is free the Online Almanac
subscription costs you USD75.

Calculating e-points

A Bi-Color Persian was used in the finals as An Abyssinian was used in the finals as
- 3rd Best Cat in Championship (Ring 1) - Best Cat in Championship (Ring 1)
- 2nd Best Cat in Championship (Ring 2) - Best Cat in Championship (Ring 2)
- 6th Best Cat in Championship (Ring 3) - 8th Best Cat in Championship (Ring 3)
- 10th Best Cat in Championship (Ring 4) - 9th Best Cat in Championship (Ring 4)
- BOB but missed the final (Ring 5) - 4th Best Cat in Championship (Ring 5)

How many e-points does he get? How many e-points does he get?
The calculations

1 2 3 4 5
AB AB AB AB AB
1.0 35 GC 35 GC
0.95 31 CH
0.9 31 CH
0.85 35 GC
0.8
0.75 31 CH
0.7
0.65 35 GC
0.6 35 GC
0.55 31 CH

Total 29 AB Cats present at the show

The Bi-color Persian gets - Exercise:
Ring 1: 0.9 x 28 = 25.2 Now how about the
Ring 2: 0.95 x 28 = 26.6 Abyssinian GC?
Ring 3: 0.75 x 28 = 21
Ring 4: 0.55 x 28 = 15.4

Total e-points from finals is 88.2

Add to the BOB the cat missed a final 88.2 + 3 = 91.2 pts
Unofficial Counts
At some point of the
show, usually close to
the end it the Master
Clerk will announce the
Unofficial Show Count.
As an exhibitor you are
encouraged to copy the
numbers that the MC
has announced.
These counts will be
used later to see how
many e-points and
grand points you get as
in most cases there will
be absentees and the
numbers will be
different from the
Entry counts.

Two Day Show
When attending a two-day show, there are a few things
of note:
- Total counts are counted for both days, regardless
which day the cat is present, even for 1 ring.
- A cat that has granded will have to claim the
Champion/Premier title using the Claim form at the
end of the first day of the show and transfer to Grand.
- A catalogue correction need to be filled up and given to
Master Clerk if your cat has granded and you want to
transfer it to compete as a Grand on the second day
(same is done at the beginning of the next show).
- Please observe the start time of the 2nd day Show.
Other forms
Other forms that you will normally see at the
shows and equally important are:
(i) Claim form
(ii) Catalogue correction form
(iii) Transfer sheet
Claim Form
Claim Form is used to claim the Champion or Premier title and will have to be
submitted to the Master Clerk (so that he can mail it along with the show
package), or mailed to the Central Office. The easiest way to do a Champion or
Premier title claim is by using the CFA Online Services. The claim will costs us
USD15.
When the title has been confirmed the cat will be a CH/PR or GC/GP once the
points are enough.

Module 4 Pasca Show
Things to do
What are the things that we need to do after the
show has ended?
(i) Wait for the confirmation if the cat is indeed
granded.
(ii) Check how many e-points scored during the
past show
(iii) Look out on the next show to attend
(iv) Prepare your cats!!
(v) Conditioning the cat and separate him from the
rest if possible (for health caution purposes)
Showing your cat at an Overseas Show
There are few things that are important when
showing a cat at an overseas shows. While
regulations may vary from one country to
another, basically they are:
(i) Permits both export and import permit
(ii) Quarantine Waiver A waiver application
from the DVS so that the cat will not have to
quarantined at the Quarantine Center
Sepang but at home instead.
Permits
Malaysian permits are:
(i) Import permit:-
- Valid for 30 days
- In order to apply the permit you will have to provide copy of your ID, medical
record of the cat including vaccination record, rabies and microchip.
- Using the DVS form and submit to your DVS Office where you reside, along with
RM12 fee.
- This import permit will be used for the Committee of the show to prepare for their
countrys permits and other documents (country to country case).
(ii) Export Permit and Health Certificate:-
- Valid for 7 days
- In order to apply the permit you will have to provide copy of your ID, medical
record of the cat including vaccination record, rabies and microchip.
- Using the DVS form and submit to your DVS Office where you reside, along with
RM45 fee.
- This permit will be used to enter the country where the show is held, as well as
when the cat is going out from Malaysia.
Other countries permits for example:
(i) Bangkok Import permit on arrival but needs Malaysian Export permit. Export
Permit done by the club usually.
(ii) Hong Kong Adil, can you briefly explain this. MALAS nak tulis hahaha.
A person of note who is very important in all these is Dr. Sockalingam.
Quarantine Waiver Application
This application is useful to get a Home Quarantine for the cats
attending the show (for being out of the country for 14 days)
Documents and info that are needed when applying the waiver are:
(i) Medical record including microchip number
(ii) Descriptions of the cat
(iii) Pet passport copy
(iv) Copy or a mention of flight itinerary in the letter
(v) Show confirmation
The letter will have to be sent to the DVS HQ in Putrajaya at a
minimum of two weeks before your departure.
Once the waiver has been approved the HQ will fax a copy to the
KLIA MAQIS office, KLIA Quarantine Sepang and send a copy to you.
It is YOUR responsibility to make sure the application has been
approved or denied.
Importing A Cat
As importing cats is one of the popular methods
to prepare a cat, the following are needed for the
purpose:
(i) Medical records such as vaccination card copy,
rabies shot record copy (a must) and microchip
(ii) Import permit applied at your nearest DVS
office.
(iii) Quarantine room booking IF the cat is coming
from a country not in Group 1.
