Fifth Grade Discipline Plan
Students should have a positive and nurturing learning environment if they are to reach
their academic potential. Students must also learn to take responsibility for their actions.
To that end, the fifth grade teachers have established guidelines that we hope will help
facilitate the creation of an environment where students can flourish.
Behavior Matrix:

This year we are implementing an online system called ClassDojo. It is a

classroom teacher tool to build your students learning habits. Class Dojo allows
us to track student behavior and learning skills throughout the day.

How does ClassDojo work?

One of the greatest features of ClassDojo is that it allows us to send you a weekly
behavior and skills report by email. This program includes a series of behavior
indicators in which your child can earn points. Your childs teachers will be inputting data.
Our hope is that this will bring us together and keep you informed about the progress of
your child on a week-to-week basis. A letter will be sent home requesting an email
address for the behavior reports.
Consequences for not following class/team rules could include:
1. Verbal warning.
2. Teachers Choice (silent lunch, thinking laps at recess, reflection essay)
3. Parent contact (note home, email, or phone call)/loss of privilege
4. Referral to the office

Homework/Classwork Policy
The purpose of homework is to enable students to practice skills and vocabulary and
receive feedback on their mastery of concepts of study. Students must cultivate the habit
of turning in homework on time each day.
1. Student responsibility in turning in homework in a timely manner will be reflected
on the Work Study portion of the progress report and report card. In addition,
parents can monitor student timeliness in ClassDojo and the ParentPortal.
2. Students are expected to read and study notes daily.
3. If students do not complete classwork in the time allotted, the assignment
should be done at home or during study hall/intervention in the morning.
4. If a student is absent, it is the students responsibility to collect work from all
teachers and turn in the next day.
It is essential that students and parents check the student agenda on a daily basis
for homework assignments. This information will also be updated at the following
websites:
Mrs. Boyce http://msboyceclass.weebly.com
Mrs. Phillips http://phillipsfifthgrade.blogspot.com/
Mrs. Kyle www.mrskylesclass.weebly.com
Ms. Mitchell www.missmitchells5thgrade.weebly.com

Communicator Envelope
A Communicator envelope will be sent home on a weekly basis containing student work
and important documents. Parent signatures are required on the Communicator
envelope which needs to be returned the following day.

Agenda Book
Student:
Takes the agenda to each class
Writes assignments in the agenda completely
Shows the agenda to a parent/guardian daily
Shows completed homework to the parent even if it was completed at school
Shows the agenda to the teacher at the beginning of the day when the parent
has written a note to the teacher
Parent:
Checks the agenda daily
Contacts the teacher if the student fails to show a note from home to the teacher
Reading
Upon arrival in the morning, after packing up at the end of the day, and during class,
students will be encouraged to read a book. Students should have at least two books
with them at all times.

Snack
Students will be able to eat a snack in the afternoon due to an early lunch schedule.
Please make sure your child brings in a simple, healthy snack (such as pretzels,
crackers, fruits, cheese, popcorn, etc.) Please do not allow your child to bring in snacks
that are messy or unhealthy, such as candy, chips, or cookies. The only drink allowed in
the classroom is bottled water. Please have your child bring a bottle of water each day.
