T he Principality of Monaco is above all,
the favourite destination for private
superyacht owners, charterers and enthu-
siasts during the summer season.
An essential summer itinerary includes
Monaco as a port of call. With its exciting
ballet of yachts, the summer season wraps
up at the end of September with its grand
finale - the Monaco Yacht Show. This year,
the worlds most luxurious annual yacht
exhibition will present an extraordinary
fleet of 125 superyachts and megayachts in
Monacos Port Hercules.
Among this prestigious fleet, some forty
vessels making their world premire an
official selection of which is presented in
the magazine (page 80) are eagerly awaited
by private owners and a new contingent
of u
ltra-qualified visitors. Our organising
team actively introduces these potential
yacht buyers or charterers to the world of
yachting, previously unknown to them.
Since its creation in 1991, the Monaco Yacht
Show has undergone a total transformation.
From a simple show, it has evolved into a
brand that represents and unites the world
of yachting. We have hosted targeted public
relations events in London and New York
to attract new attendees. To stimulate inte-
rest in the industry and to share unbiased
information, the 2nd edition of the M
onaco
Yacht Summit will take place on the eve of
the Show (page 58). On September 26 in
Monaco, a select audience will have the pri-
vilege of discussing a first yacht purchase or
charter with industry experts. This unique
experience creates well informed attendees
who then go on to meet some of the 600
exhibitors, shipyards and yacht brokers in
Port Hercules as part of the MYS Sapphire
Experience program.
For you dont just visit the Monaco Yacht
Show, you experience it. An experience
that Bill Duker shares with us (page 24)
through the story of his magnificent sailing
yacht Sybaris, first sketched out a few years
ago in the Show before she was presented
and won a prize at the 2016 MYS. For Bill

his unreasoning, boundless passion for an

to book as far as five months in advance to
secure your ideal yacht whilst the charter
rates may be more negotiable.
In demand
By booking three to six months ahead of
the desired embarkation of your charter,
you should be fortunate in securing your
dream yacht. But what attributes are
valued by other experienced charterers
and, is your chosen one likely to be snap-
ped up by a competing offer?
Seonaid Thomas reveals, There are many
excellent yachts that manage to combine
good design, excellent equipment in terms of
watersports and, most importantly, a great
crew. These yachts are well managed, well around Australia. For these destinations, a
maintained and always book up fast either
with charter clients who come back every
year or by the brokers who know they are
placing their clients in good hands. Galaxy,
Lazy Z, Lady S, Silver Dream, Slipstream,
Ruya, Talisman Maiton, all spring to mind
immediately.

In the Camper & Nicholsons fleet, Eduardo
Valfre says, The most popular yachts in our
fleet are Icon, Q and Thumper. Also, the
yachts that have the capabilities to travel
further afield are becoming more and more
popular, such as the 77.4m Legend, which
charters in Antarctica. At least six months is a
preferred lead time for this yacht.

The pace for charter has been picking up
further east, especially in the
Andaman
Sea, Gulf of Thailand, Indonesia and

calendar, so the offer comes with set dates
and ports and they arent always ideal. She
also warns, Big discounts are rare for peak
periods and if the deal is really amazing,
I would be very wary. The periods when
you really can get genuinely great deals are
January through to the end of March in the
Caribbean or Indian Ocean, and then in
June or September the off peak or shoulder
seasons.
But although discounts are available, they
vary from owner to owner: Some owners
want to quickly secure bookings for summer
or winter resulting in a good deal. Other
owners wont commit for bookings until a few
months before the season, this is particularly
true if the yacht is seriously for sale, Eduardo
Valfre observes.
