Mission Creek Festival Volunteer Liaison Internship

Overview
The Englert Theatre is seeking a Volunteer Liaison to assist the Volunteer Coordinator of Mission Creek
Festival. This experience will equip the intern with event planning and festival production knowledge as well
as people management skills. It will allow for the intern to work independently, as part of an intimate team,
and help lead a large team. It is an opportunity to be involved in the production of one of Iowa Citys most
beloved community gatherings and get a foot in the door of its largest historic performing arts venue.

Term specifications
The intern will work at least 140 hours between the fourth week of January and the last week of April. The
expectation will be 10 hours per week for the 10 weeks leading up to the festival, 30 hours during the festival
and 10 total hours in the weeks to follow.

Qualifications
Enrollment in the University of Iowa studying event management, arts entrepreneurship or related
field
Superior people skills
Peer leadership experience
Excellent problem solving skills and ability to take initiative
Comfort with working both independently and as part of a team
Punctuality and respect for deadlines
Exceptional abilities with Microsoft Excel
Money handling experience
Flexibility in schedule the first week of April for maximum availability to Mission Creek Festival
Fearless of early mornings, late nights, long hours, and physical activity

Responsibilities
Recruit volunteers through organizations and contacts provided to you by the Volunteer Coordinator
and share ideas for alternative resources for volunteer recruitment
Schedule and help lead all volunteer orientations and meetings
Design and maintain scheduling documents for volunteers
Design and maintain spreadsheets for tracking merchandise and hospitality needs
Miscellaneous tasks as assigned by the Volunteer Coordinator to prepare for the festival
Help manage up to 50 volunteers during the festival
o Check in with show producers to ensure volunteers have shown up and are providing
necessary assistance
o Replace volunteers when they are unable to make their shift or fill in yourself if necessary
o Provide information and necessary support to the volunteers in order to maximize their
effectiveness
o Help conduct merchandise settlements as needed
o Collect and record attendance information for festival events
o Maintain excellent contact with the Volunteer Coordinator
Participate in post-festival discussion with the Volunteer Coordinator to help eliminate stresses and
streamline processes for the following years festival
Maintain your own schedule and keep a record of hours worked

The second round of applicants will be sent a short questionnaire and Microsoft Excel project to complete.

The third round of applicants will be brought in for on-site interviews.

Note: The final candidate for this position will be required to sign a confidentiality and non-disclosure
agreement due to the nature of the information being handled.

This internship is designed to provide ample and consistent support to the MCF representative mentioned in
this outline. If at any point the intern proves unable or unwilling to accommodate this need the internship may
be terminated.
